You deserve a banner on this one. Finding anything that old in the Americas is unique.

Cool- next time you dig a target there- check for any short maize type cob remains. Some last for a long time in the right soils. Use to get some complete cobs in DE in the '60's. Possible early agriculture site.

Cool, if I get a chance this weekend I will post a picture of the point I found, it was also found along the Lehigh at a rock over hang.

Great find. You got my vote for banner.
I think a lot of these copper finds are discarded as garbage when they are in fact Native American treasures.

You should post this in the North American Artifact Forum.

Funny how few of these (not that many get posted), make the Banner?

im with ya crusader, dont get me wrong the CW relics are nice , but there are alot more of them around then items like these , this should have been banner first day in my opinion , but i guess alot of people did not feel the same or they would have voted for it.

It already got my vote. Not sure what more a detectorist could hope for!

There is 1 problem, the MODs like to hear the story behind the find & not just a plain statement of what it is. Maybe the OP can add something?

Fair point.

I am still a noob, but I am guessing knowledgeable members need proof before a banner vote? If not, a banner would certainly lose any standing, wouldn't it?

Happy Hunting!

We all like in the ground, just dug pictures. However, its a sure way to get banned if you state that this was not dug, read the rules, no proof is needed.

i assumed the Banner was awarded due to readers votes and not purely at the Mods discretion ?
in my opinion this OP has said where he dug it and gave a brief account and even had it looked at and ID'd <----not sure if thats a word..lol

Back in March 2012, I was working a large cornfield approx. 300 yards from the Lehigh River in Bethlehem Pa. A week before this find I found a 1826 Large Cent in the same field but on the opposite side. So goin along I got a similar high pitch squeal (03-27) and I was almost sure it was another large cent, but I got down about 8" and it was still in the ground. So finally after a few more scoops about 14" down I pulled the Celt out. I thought it was junk at first but after rubbing away dirt I saw the patina and knew it had to be copper or an alloy of copper. So I brought it home and did some research and Realized it was a lot cooler than first thought! I sent a few pictures to different people to get a few cross references. So I finally contacted Ph.D Kurt Carr Senior Curator of Archeology in Harrisburg, Pa. He said I could bring it down and have them check it out, so I did. They were very excited when they saw it in person, they logged it in their system and I gave google earth coordinates, they took several pictures and told me it was a unique find and asked if I would donate it to the museum, I held onto it and it was an awesome adventure from thinking it was trash to being something fairly unique. They also said there is a test that can be done to find out the copper origin, where it was obtained. Thank-you all! Happy hunting and great luck! I love this hobby!

i dont even know what it is, but i like it, think of the last person to touch that thing over 800 years ago!!! sweet!
