I really like all the people on here but it aggravates me to no end to see all the people on here that absolutely turn something someone found and try and put a kink in how the guy feels about his find. Just went to a reenactment today and what did they have on the horses. Low and behold they had heart rosettes on the bridle and a heart shield for the chest and the heart buckle/protector on the sinch straps

Mainerelic are you saying that no confederates were in Maine or what because judging from what action Maine had as far as it being one of the major civil war strongholds during the civil war it's not unbelievable that confederates lost stuff.

I'm not really sure what your aggravated at? Because I don't think anyone on this thread was trying to 'kink' anything. I'm sure that the poster valued a 'free' experienced evaluation of the object. This forum has always tried to drill down to the facts as best 'we' know it. Maybe you were not around when PBK posted, but if he stated it, I believe it, & it was backed by a number of other well versed individuals.
I know of plenty of other examples like this that have gain popular notoriety as being 'fact' because of a couple of incorrect assumptions made in books. This one has grown out of control & now most people believe it, but it doesn't make it true & doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss it's merits on an open forum.

And for that reason right there is why I am gonna ask the mods to cancel my account. Too many hobbyist that think they are always right and will fight tooth and nail just to say your wrong. Even if someone has proof on stuff it doesn't really seem to matter cause it still doesn't mean anything

I Remember making a thread somewhere to talk about all the dif styles that I have found. Posted a pic n thought I would get a nice discussion about these. I have found tons here in the panhandle. Hearts diamonds and O's. But not 1 serious response. I believe its a good topic for a talk. Just remember Cru.. CW Site's (I mean remote areas) here in the U.S. are remote. I live in no mans land.... So u can research. But I love these finds thank you for sharing!

Still nice relics and finds. I come here hoping to gain knowledge and learn from my peers. I learn a lot and get good opinions and advice. Good post and nice finds Eboy

I resurrected your post on the MY BEST FINDS FORUM with what information I know about these things: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/my-best-finds/211457-buckle-covers.html#post2977261

I always remember thanks, I keep an open mind that a CW site could be visited anytime after, specially closer to the time after. Just because an area is out of use & very remote, doesn't mean you don't get the odd visitor, that was my only point. Never close your mind to any possibility whilst detecting or you may never find the truth, that was all. If you only find CW era stuff on a site & the latest object you find is CW era (assuming all are correctly IDed), then all you can say is with 'all likelihood'/'weight of probability' my stuff is 'all' CW related. Unless of course you talking about a sealed archaeological layer which is different. Do you not agree? Or I might be way off & you can explain to me why someone couldn't find that place again?

I, too, have always been amazed .. and amused .. at what one can find in the seemingly most remote areas. I once found a string of Christmas lights at a mountain site that I would have sworn hadn't been visited by man for 150 years. Absolutely nothing around except for a few stone pillars, yet there was a string of modern lights .. what the heck were they doing there? I have pondered that for years!!

Thx Cres. Either way no1 wants to talk about em. I agree Cru. Found my brass point walking randomly. I think what get's me most is thread derailment like this that ruins this cats finds but a guy finds a 153 pound rock and gets banner.

Wow, I have one of these to the one I have it called a bullseye, and I got the rosette that goes with the bridle. And it came out of a camp along with lots of cavalry stuff.

It is a shame it was slightly derailed, but I think/hope that those waiting for the answers on these have learnt something from the good responses from people like Creskol. If it sparks debate we don't need to hide behind 'nice find' because no-one learns anything unless we argue a little.:icon_thumright:
Sorry eboy1960 for my over involvement in your thread.

thanks crusader i learn alot reading your post and value your feedback,,with the respect it deserves,,thanks again,,

The way I see it, the longer a thread continues, the better, as long as it stays civil (because you have created interest & debate). I too have learnt a lot from this. Thanks.
