This could not of worked out any better! It rained on Saturday & it was a lovely windy cool day for what is our LAST CHANCE to detect this field before harvest. Conditions were perfect & something happened that has never happened to me. We normally call a early silver in the hunt 'the kiss of death'. Well I dug a Celtic Gold on my 'first dig', I couldn't believe how deep it was, over 8 inches & I was thinking deep shotgun shell.:laughing7:
This must be the end of my personal mega roll over the last 4 hunts, my highlights have been;
3 Roman Silver, Hammered, Celtic Gold, Celtic Silver, Celtic Bronze!

We finished gridding the edge of the site in 5 hours 15 minutes;

Boar's tooth
Livery Button
17th C Token
11 Roman Bronze Coins
3 Roman Fibula (Brooches) - One type that I need, the upper part of a 1st C AD Roman Brooch of the 'Lion Bow Derivative':icon_thumright:
Ring Bezel
Roman Hair-pin
Celtic La Tene III Brooch
Hammered Penny of Ed I, Bristol Mint (Only our 2nd of this mint, this being the better one)8-)
Roman Silver Siliqua of Honorius (Our last Emperor to rule Britain):icon_thumright:
GOLD Celtic Qter Stater of Cunobelin circa AD 15. :headbang:

Big congrats to you Cru. You just never cease to amaze.

They really are small, especially when seen against that coin.

Good show, cheers!

It took 2 other trips to grid to this point, & it was towards the edge of the main scatter. My strategy worked well this time, as I wanted to prove the limits of that edge. We were working at 90 degrees to our normal hunting pattern for this field, so as not to do very long runs of nothing.

Nice BANNER find sir . Celtic gold is plain awesome and that one is stellar.

This is the only field we know where we felt we had a chance. (now our 4th Gold from this field) In fact this morning I was so confident that I was already thinking of the Tnet title....lol
Doesn't normally work out though, as we had covered the whole site in about 7 days after a deep plough & got none. It wasn't until conditions improved with the drilled beans that we stood a better chance.

really nice finds there banner for sure

Cheers.

The way I look at it, I only need 1 a year to make it a good year & it's only May!

Dayum...when you go big you GO BIG! That's impressive, even by your standards!

Cheers. Cru'dad hadn't even started detecting when I popped that gold out the ground. I walked over to him to do the reveal, as it was caked wet sticky mud.:occasion14:

Congratulations on the beautiful Gold Coin! :notworthy:

Banner all the way! :icon_thumleft:

Those golden ponies are FANTASTIC treasure. I love them. Certainly one of the very best things a MDer could ever hope to find.
Can only imagine how they made the dies, and the other tools used to make them way back then.

Complete initials under the horse would be CVNO for Cunobelin, the Celtic king
Full initials on the reverse would be CA-MV for Camulodunum; Colchester, England today.
Cru, as usual, an assortment of fantastic finds:notworthy:
Don......

You always blow me away with your finds and like usual, you did it again with a HOLY COW GOLD! Banner find! That is just totally beautiful. Are you still using the LF coils?

Well sir, maybe time for your own tv series!!!! Your finds just keep us all amazed!!! Congrats again!!!!!! :occasion14:

Personally I think Treasurenet just needs to keep one Banner spot open for you, so they can just rotate through your finds. Amazing recoveries, and well done!

yes just the 11" standard.

Wow! Another amazing hunt. That gold coin is tiny, cool that you were able to rescue it along with your typical hoard of recoveries. Big Congrats!!

Yes, I remember as a kid starting this hobby thinking these things were impossible to find & they were my first No.1 Wish List coin for a very long time!
