This was found in the Midwest MO .. It was found 8ft below ground level.... Not sure what kind of stone it is but it feels dense like marble. It has some crazy carvings on it and it is kinda creepy. Let me know what you think about it.

So you don't even know and you are accusing me of faking and being a liar???? It was found 8ft below ground level in a creek bank like I said. I can guarantee you it is not 3d printed bud....

Redhawks, I suggest you read our rules, your violating them.

REAL OR FAKE?

Occasionally a member may have doubts about the authenticity of an item posted by another member. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. It is NEVER appropriate or permissible, regardless of proof, to state or suggest in an open forum that another member's find may not be genuine— unless, of course, he has raised that possibility himself, or there is an obvious issue that cannot be disputed or ignored (for example, if the word "COPY" is clearly stamped on a coin).

2. It is NEVER appropriate or permissible to suggest that a member may not actually have found the item which he has posted as a find.

3. Members are free to express such opinions to one another in private messages, but should NOT continue to do so if those messages are unwelcome.

4. Do NOT report doubts, suspicions, possibilities, or rumors to moderators or the administrator. Any formal report or complaint should be accompanied by full and absolute proof from independent, authoritative sources that the item is not, and cannot be, genuine.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in censure, loss of privileges &/or access to certain forums, or outright banning from TreasureNet.

All finds posted are presumed to be genuine, and those who post them are to be respected.

Almost has an African vibe to it, maybe slave trade?

Most examples of prehistoric art would have some sense of order. The meaning might be a mystery, but there would be some hierarchy and order to it. This piece seems more idiosyncratic like folk art. It could have been an untrained artist, with a lot of natural talent, who saw the suggestion of a face on a rock and carved on it. Then, they added something else, creating a negative space, that looks like something else, and so on.

The fact that it was 8' deep is the most puzzling part. I once came across the corner of a box-coffin washing out of a creek bank. Could have been buried?

Please, update as you learn more.

I see all the faces in this thing, but what are the odds its natural? I’ve hunted all over missouri and have seen similar style rocks. Obviously not with all the imagery, but similar.

Being 8' deep in a creek bank is kind of meaningless. The creek may have changed much in 25 years, let alone a hundred or two.

I’ve seen less than 100 year old pieces of farming equipment buried deeper than 8 ft in cutbanks. Creeks and rivers are definitely a factor.... my first impression was it was just a big hunk of what I call gum rock, but the longer I looked the more things I saw. I saw the Aztec looking face first, but the guy climbing? Doesn’t look South American, and the pot belly elephant... I’d say it would have to come from somebody with knowledge of a variety of cultures so likely not a native living in his own little corner of the world ... but I’m just spitballing, all I know is it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

Just a reminder, there were mammoths in NA at the same time as early people. Just because no ones ever seen something before doesn't mean it's not legit. It's not like any culture is 100% homogeneous. I think what you have found is a work of art from a prehistoric Hieronymus Bosch.

I agree with those who say you should get it checked out by a professional! Don't listen to the naysayers, and keep us posted!

it is an interesting piece and we here can only offer opinions. All of us would really like you to pursue this with professionals and get back to us with what they tell you. Your object is beyond anyone's expertise with just a few photos.

I have forwarded the pictures to three people at a university and let them know that they can physically examine it if needed. I have my fingers crossed they will respond. I was very hesitant to post this here because I knew there would be naysayers.. I am a 53 yo that has nothing to gain/prove by trying to find out what this is, or could be. I will update if/when I hear back.

but of course we would all doubt such a piece! it is way beyond what we have experience with....it could really be interesting and please do update us.

That's a stunner! Congrats.

My inexperience sees a South American influence. Hopewell or later Mississippian regions were certainly not out of range of influence though by any means.

Wasn’t trying to sound like naysayer. I hope you found something truly amazing! Will keep checking in for results

For those interested...you can google that last tag line and browse Brett’s blog showing his work.
I didn’t have the knack to see..

I did that before reading your email, to see if the guy was legit. I'm not the most educated person on the subject but after looking at the blog spot, I was like.....ummmm.....those look like rocks.

all kidding aside, i believe we actually have a forum on this site devoted to your interests...but this is not that forum.

There is plenty of other evidence ......

Eolith, please do not post any links to, pictures of or posts about so called "portable rock art" on our Indian artifact forum, they do not belong here..
