My first post - looking forward to becoming an active member on the site! I found this small stone object last summer on the shore of an uninhabited island in the Chesapeake Bay. Not sure how old it is, or what it is. It looks like a smushed rectangle. Could it be a random artifact from a shipwreck, or possibly something Native American? Any thoughts? Thanks!

Welcome to T-net. I believe there is a forum titled "What is it" ? You may want to try posting it in that one, and maybe someone there can I.D. it for you.

Do you know what kind of stone it is made of?

Hi Smokey the Cat - it is sedimentary rock. Not sandstone, but looks like river rock...

I’m tending toward natural breaks followed by smoothing. I’ve found similar shaped rocks that look to be of the same type of rock while beach combing rocky coasts. You’d figure they were hand manipulated by the looks of it right?

Very interesting. I got to stay tuned. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting find sometimes items like that are very hard to ID Hope someone can help. Look forward to hearing more from you!!!!

Also welcome aboard!!!!!! Tommy
