Got out for a hunt this morning in a small Sierra town. I was trying to get permission at one of the old houses along the RR tracks but couldn't get an okay, so I just went along between the tracks and the property lines.
I've been wanting to find an old RR padlock since I first started detecting. Well, today was the day!
Also got a marble (love finding them!), a 1956 Uncle Sam Half Buck play money and a 1962 Look magazine 25 year anniversary token.

Oh, and the usual junk plus $3.69 in clad.

Dry well drained soils really helps the survival rate of the relics.
Not to mention easier to dig than silty/clay crud.
My permission has a mix. The front yard was mostly silty, the back near the barn is all ash layer full of hot rocks, and the area I'm digging now is the most beautiful fluffy topsoil I've ever seen--it's like digging sifted flour!

I wish I still had all my childhood marbles still.
I still do still! 😝 Nyah! 🤣

Congratulations on the R/R lock.
Beautiful condition
Is there any marking on the back?

Yeah, even those two aluminum pieces came out clean, they were also in the railroad embankment.
Mo back markings, just smooth.

I honestly don't know what it is with marbles, but I always get a big smile on when I find them.

I rarely find marbles at my sites.
Clay once in a blue moon.

You ARE a good girlfriend for that one, us boys love our trains! :icon_thumright:
I think you'll find that trains are no longer an exclusively male interest either. 😉

There are at least a couple FB groups: one for Women in Model Railroading (417 members), and another--The Steam Sisters (118 members)--for fans of steam power.

My Missus collects pics of steam engine wrecks--collisions, derailments, explosions....

Goes to show you never know where you’ll find something.
