'A Public Safety Disaster': ObamaCare Could Force THOUSANDS of Volunteer Fire Departments to Close - Fox Nation

"
By DAVID MARTOSKO, U.S. POLITICAL EDITOR - The Daily Mail
PUBLISHED: 15:58 EST, 9 December 2013 | UPDATED: 23:11 EST
Volunteer fire departments all across the U.S. could find themselves out of money and unable to operate unless Congress or the Obama Administration exempts them from the Affordable Care Act.
'I thought the kinks were worked out of Obamacare at the first of the month, Central Florida volunteer firefighter Carl Fabrizi told Sunshine State News.
'Man, oh, man, this could potentially destroy some real good companies in Florida.'
The U.S. Department of Labor takes the term 'volunteer' literally, but the IRS says volunteer firefighters are technically employees if they're on the job more than 30 hours per week, making them subject to Obamacare's employee-mandate rules.
Since the Obamacare law doesn't specifically carve out an exemption for them, fire departments where 50 or more people work – either as volunteers or officially as employees – are expected to provide health insurance for every one of them."

Great post Dave. I will agree with one thing Obama has said. The healthcare law surely will be what he is remembered for in the future. Unfortunately for him I don't think it's going to be for the reasons he intended. And now I'm going to sit back & have my coffee and wait for the excuses from the usual suspects to come piling on. At the moment they are having a meeting and furiously Googling to come up with a rebuttal. Because after all it's not that facts that matter, it's simply "winning" (in a Charlie Sheen kinda way) the argument.

There is a big network of places to find all the progressive rebuttals needed to put up a smokescreen and abuse the facts. Started finding them when tracing back some of the links.

But don't let them get to you,, it's part of how they operate.

Nah Dave they don't get to me. I find their tactics pretty funny actually. They like to come here and play in the mud but then they run to the moderators when they get a little dirty. My apologies if my calling them on it got your other thread locked. I just got to my breaking point with all the silly crap.

No problem NH. There is so much corruption in this administration that it can't all be held back.
Guess we will let out a little at a time, some people get hung up on one little weed and can't see the forest.

The headline is about volunteer fire departments - but the text states "Since the Obamacare law doesn't specifically carve out an exemption for them, fire departments where 50 or more people work – either as volunteers or officially as employees..."

If the firefighters are employees, then they aren't "volunteers."

Good luck to all,

I can see why you are confused.
Hope your day gets better?

Are you having difficulties comprehending the word "or" ? Or are you just arguing for the sake of arguing ? Dave didn't write the article. If you have an issue with the title maybe you should contact the author ? psssst.. the media sometimes uses dramatic titles to get people to read the story. "your guys" do it too.. It dosn't change the facts of the story. Hope this helps. [SUP]1[/SUP]or

why dont you stroll down to your closest vol.fire dept, and ask them if they consider themselves an employee,a little hint it will probably have VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT,somewhere on the facade .hmmm.... do they get paid?

So you agree! Thank you.

Good luck to all,

An organization that looks remarkably like a union asked for clarification of a classification difference between the US Department of Labor and the IRS:

IAFC - International Association of Fire Chiefs

Then the right wing Internets echo chamber went crazy - The Blaze, Wing Nutz' Daily, (Mis)InfoWars and the rest. The sky is falling! When one reviews those various websites the stories are almost identical. This is typical. They can't copy from each other fast enough.

Do they add anything? Well, anything of merit? Nope. They just cut 'n' paste the latest scare rumor and pass it on even louder.

Good luck to all,

Thank goodness the left nut wings started putting out disinformation , finally. Although it needs work still.

I was afraid we would have to endure child-like responses for a couple more hours.

Did I hear that 80% of the fire depts are voluntary! That means the OR part that get paid is only 20%??
That could be bad.

This argument doesn't make any sense to me. It is Obammy's HHS folks who designed his horrible Obammycare Bill that are the ones stating that Volunteer Fire Depts with over 50 people must now consider those VOLUNTEERS as employees with regard to providing them Obammycare coverage. Dave44's initial post states this and it is only for the purpose of Obammycare coverage, period! They are still all volunteers and not paid employees of that fire department, except when it comes to the stupid regs under Obammycare that the libs need to fund medical coverage for those who don't pay for it and won't! In the meantime, many volunteer fire depts will be hurt by these pathetic regs.

There are over one million firefighters nation wide. And they have a loud voice. Most politicians know they are a tight group and have time to dump the ones that voted this crap in.

Unclebuck257:

The point of contention is the difference between Department of Labor and IRS rules and regulations.

The regs are not under the ACA - they are the Federal Tax Code and the IRS implementation regulations. Funny how Congress never found this to be a problem before - but that's another story.

Every right wing website I looked at repeated the word "could..."

Good luck to all,

~ The Old Bookaroo

Just heard on Fox News that a Representative was introducing a Bill to specifically exclude volunteer fire depts from Obammycare. I didn't get the rep's name but as was said, if this Obammycare reg is forced on volunteer fire depts, most, if not all, would be out of business. Another interesting fact is that these vol. fire depts save taxpayers 1.6 billion nationwide each year because they are volunteer and not paid depts.
