Yea,I seen that.In all my years,I only worked one such case and I still believe it was cornered and provoked.I would want to be attacked by a 8 lb housecat let alone a 20 lb Bob...

Nasty little buggars . My first FIL grabbed what he thought was going to be a raccoon by the hind legs and jerked it out of a box trap to bash it's head against a tree . Took him 3 over the shoulder swings to get that agile cat killed . He carried scars from midcalf to the tops of his shoulders to his grave .

Those things are bad news as far as I am concerned. Beautiful animals but bad news. I recently had to get rid of what I had left of my chickens because one got inside the hen house and did some wholesale killing. It came back the next night and I shot at him but missed in the dark. Waiting to get a trap over here and "send" him away.

Wow, that would have been some thing to witness.
I can almost imagine the scene and hear the din.

Can you spell rabies?
I wouldnt be too quick..........%98 of all mtn lion attacks have been by healthy animals

When I was a kid my Dad had a pet Bobcat. His name was Alkali. He was just like any pet cat until you fed him red meat,it had a BAD effect on him and you couldnt get around him for at least 5 hours.During the day Dad would put him out on a leash, and he was fine till Grandma felt sorry for him,and gave him more chain....he jumped the fence and hung himself :censored:

I have to wonder if he tried to get the cat out of the garage in a threatening way?
This would put the cat in a total attack mode, even if an escape path opens up after the initial encounter.
Many larger animals will do this.. and a black bear is one that will!

It sounded like the cat just attacked when confronted. Tore that guy up pretty good. Never heard of one attacking as they are so skittish. Thought it was interesting.

wild animals are very unpredictable.I have bottle raised coyotes that were all schitsofrenic(sp)never will have one again!!!

Did you get them before their eyes were open. I've been told they never make good pets, but if you get them before their eyes are open then they will kind of bond with you, but they aren't dogs.

You never know...

Last spring I was sitting in the break room at work just before shift change. Daniel who works the night shift came walking through going to the dressing room. He stopped and said.. "you ain't going to believe what happen awhile ago". He had blood on his shirt and pants.
He had asked a few days before if I had seen any bears out my way, I told him not in a couple of months. He said his uncle called the other day to let him know a couple had been seen around their property.
A couple of hours before work time his dogs(caged) were barking at something out behind the barn. He went outside to look around. Just pass the barn they have a picnic table and BBQ pit, and a trash barrel. A large black bear was picking through the barrel as Daniel rounded the barn.
They startled each other... the bear growled and charged him from 40 feet away. He hit the bear with two shots from his .44 magnum, the bear dropped about 15 feet from where he was standing. He told me the bear had an escape route but charged him anyway.
I told him that was good shooting to hit him twice on a run!
He said, "Not really... I shot at him with all six shots!" :laughing7:

He had called the game warden and helped him load the bear just before leaving for work.

I believe it on the black bears. They see you as a meal. The cool thing is they are spreading some. Friend of mine holds the black bear record south of the mason dixon line. He lives in Cleveland. We had one in the neighbors fish pond last year. I do not mind them if I am looking for them it is when you do not expect one and it is there. Kinda like that Bobcat on the guys face. I am sure that was the last thing he was expecting.

Hey Kruger .....deer season officially over in TN .....going back to the Pepper Patch where I saw the big cat. It has been turned and was put in winter wheat. Hope I don't have one of those stories..ha ha

Unlike a Grizzly which you can play dead with, dont do that with a Black Bear, they dont fall for that and will start eating from your stomach/midsection

I shot several growing up, we had guineas and the cats would come looking for a meal. The guineas would go cazy. No guard dog can beat a yard full of guineas alerting of a stranger, cat, coyote of visiting car.

I don't trust any animal. When we(wife) go out looking in remote areas, we always go armed.
You need to be careful, you never know what they will do.
Had a mommy bear and her twins wonder into our camp a few years back. We didn't like that! You don't want to be any where around a cub. We made enough noise so they left without her thinking we were going to harm her cubs. A black bear may not see you(bad sight) and if you're down-wind they may get close before they know you're human, best to make noise, just to let them know!

But, the "two-legged critter" is the one you really need to watch!
