BobCat attacks family

bears are not the cute fuzzy critters many folks think they are -- you messed up by finding the bear "feeding" at the trash barrel , bears are highly protective of "their food" the two worse things you can do with a black bear is bother them while they are feeding and mess with a sow bears cubs --both are highly likely to cause a brutal attack by them where its kill or be killed.

bobcats by and large do not like to be around humans * but like all cats they have a "nosy nature" and can loiter about houses catching mice and other small animals that tend to live around human dwellings living off human trash cans (raccoons and opussum) if trapped or threatened bobcats are nasty mean fighters with both teeth and claws -- bobcats have been know to both mate with female housecats and kill and eat male housecats and to kill and eat small tiny yip yip dogs left in back yards .

It wasn't me, it was a friend... this time the bear messed up... not being a match for a .44 magnum.

home owner got lucky getting 2 - 44 shots in -- if the bear had got in faster or been closer --it would be a differant story .

for checking out "noises in the night" in bear country -- I say remington 870 mag express with 3 in rifled slugs

although a 44 mag pistol is a good choice for a revolver - and for a semi auto -- a 45 acp

IVan you are a wise man.In grizz country all old salts(myself included)carry a shotgun)I cant shoot a pistol calm, and neither can %98 of people when excited. Also a pistol bullet is likely to glance off a bears sloped head

Naw.. he's real good with the .44... I did have to rag him some after he said he fired all 6 shots.:laughing7:
If the bear was closer, he would have hit him more times, I've seen him put 6 shots in a 12" circle at 10 feet in four seconds.
You may have a real hard time doing that with an 870?

....wouldnt need to with an 870 one shot from it and you are sending 50 x the lead down range and likely blinding the aggressor....

But... you got to hit your target!

..............lot easier with 50 projectiles at once vs one ............as said,I have seen slugs glance off a bears and pigs heads

Our ancestors did a fine job of clearing out most of the dangerous critters from North America. Fast forward 200 years and people can't understand how this stuff happens now that the dangerous critter populations are going back up. It's all fun and games till the cougar or bear or whatever decides you'd make a nice snack.

Encountered both bobcats (3) and a solitary mountain lion in the backcountry...neither were problems...

A bob cat will usually look you over and then quietly disappear into the brush...while a mountain lion crossed in front of our trail about 20 yards or so...and my horse did a 180 spin and darn near unseated me...swear to God, his bung was so tight he couldn' crap for a week...(me too)...

Coyotes, on the otherhand are very bold and will hold their ground till you're almost on top of them...in fact, on garbage day, they openly walk the streets...scary for school age kids waiting for the school bus

Don't think I would want to shot a bear with shot-shells! Might make him mad! LOL!
ivan salis said an 870 using rifled slugs.

My friend said he hit the bear twice in the chest, wasn't sure if it was hit anywhere else... he said the bear had blood all over it.
When we shoot together, he's always ragging me if I miss... I just had to to get even with him when he told me about the bear!HA!

.....If you knew how many coyote on human attacks I worked for the Gov. in your Neck of the woods you would be shocked....or maybe not

Talk to anybody that spends anytime in Bear country if you dont want to beleive me........................with even bird shot you run a great chance of at least blinding them.I shot a charging boar hog (with a .40 Cal.) 8 times and wasnt until I broke both his front legs did I get one behind his ear...had a trainee standing by the whole time with a gun as well, that froze up!!!

It's not a perfect world and nothing is 100%, and no two things or moments are the same.

...............you just like to argue...................

It sounded like the cat just attacked when confronted. Tore that guy up pretty good. Never heard of one attacking as they are so skittish. Thought it was interesting.

Really cool video on youtube that I found the other night. Title was something like "Bobcat in Trap Almost Kills Man". Check it out. I have had them in sheds, in trees near me, walking by and they all ran away. Thank heavens. Title is misleading and video made me smile...

Odd behavior in my opinion.. I live in Pa. and have never heard of a bobcat acting like this.. Sounds to me like there is something wrong with this cat or it may have been provoked.. Strange attack in my opinion..

Wild animals are beautiful creatures! But when they start messing with humans they become ugly beasts and even the simplest little itty bitty cuddly cute little chipmunk can chew/scratch the dickens out of a full grown adult in seconds. The fella with the 44 mag was still doing good to get off six shots as forty feet away with a charging bear takes only seconds to get to you doing 25 miles an hour on average. He was lucky he only had blood splatters on him from the bear and not his own......63bkpkr

This is not a case of a rouge animal or rabies( I doubt), it's a wild animal plain n simple. It reacted out of fear not malice. Humans are the ones that act out of malice . Animals are more pure, they are instinctual. And it perceived a threat and panicked .
