Best pinpointer

I have heard Harbor Freight has one for cheap not sure how well it works, I'm sure somebody knows of a few others. I got the Garrett pro pointer form Bart. I like it a lot because the closer it gets to the target the louder it gets, less chance of damaging a coin and easier to find the target.

I'm a relative newbie but I used the Harbor Freight pin pointer last year and thought it did pretty well. It's actually advertised as a nail finder I think. Roughly $15.

The harbor freight one is definitely your cheapest bet and i think actually works better than the other slimmer black ones you see for around $35 like the bounty hunter, but if at all possible to save your money by cutting out a couple trips to the movies or dinner and what have you.. Get the Garrett pro-pointer! it makes the others seam like you were using a stick you found on the ground.

Garrett for me - love it!!

just bought a Vibra detector for scuba but yet to try it!

Going to buy a pin pointer. Don't want to spend a lot of money.

That's an oxymoron. Buy a Garrett pro-pointer; wished I had years ago. Anything else is wasting your money.

I use mine a lot; saves tons of time and aggravation. I'd even say it's about perfect. :occasion14:

I bought all the cheapies, and they were all a waste of money. Use the clad you find to save up for a Garrett.

A Garrett pointer from Bart is the ticket. Some things in life I try to cut costs, however, after spending upwards of a thousand dollars on the hobby I would not shortcut on a pinpointer as this is one of the cheaper needs.

Garrett Pro Pointer.....worth every penny.

I agree with Susan. I had a Harbor Freight cheapo as a back-up and it broke on the first outing.
I've used Vibra Probes for about 10+ years and loved them until I wore my 570 model down from so much use, bought their newly redesigned 580 model, and HATED it. I sold it, bought a Garrett Pro Pointer from Bart, and LOVE it.

Garrett Pro Pointers are so overrated, they almost all get returned.

Mine didn't last long at all of gentle use, Minelab makes a quality pinpointer.

Well, a pinpointer is a simple instrument for a simple use. No need to spend a bundle to get a big name on it. You just place it in the hole and it signals when it gets about 1/2" from the target. It only takes a $16 instrument to do that. The Harbor Freight pinpointer does the job at a reasonable price. I have been using one for 3 years. It is easy to customize. I have added a bright blue LED that lights when It finds the target. The 9v bat. seems to last forever. Best $16 I have ever spent.

curious...I have a garrett...is in nearly daily use..never a problem. All 4 of my hunting buddies have the garrett,no problems for them either.I find it to be very well built and engineered."almost all get returned"...Personally I've never seen one fail...curious

I agree....Got one last Christmas and it didn't even work out right out of the box....Returned it and got another but I stayed with my Vibraprobe. Waterproof, no switches and much more durable in my opinion than the Garrett.

The new Minelab pin pointer may be very good also.....but I have never used one. My Garrett Pro Pointer has served me well with now issues so far.

Garrett Pro Pointer.. I bought a cheapo pointer before for about 35.00 not worth it. Save up some $$ and bought a Garrett Pro pointer ....happy
