Of course if we do that we have to deal with Russia. In a not so pleasant way. They too want to protect their strategic interests.

TH you need to get past the Muslim brotherhood thing. Unfortunately, the world is not a place of absolutes. A place of black and white. There is much gray. To survive on this planet we need to do business with whoever owns the real estate in which we have a vested interest. Many times that means aligning with people we don't like. Sometimes bad people. Like Saddam, who we supported for years. It's called reality. It doesn't mean letting our guard down. It's operating in the gray area. And if you want to put in a way that you can live with, Keep your friends close and you enemies closer.

Our vested interest in Syria is in protecting our access to strategic oil supplies in the region. We do that in two ways. Helping our greatest ally in the region, Israel, and by making a political bet on what side to back when one of the countries in the area destabilizes as Syria has done. Note that Russia, our greatest competitor for oil in this region, has also placed a bet and is backing a side.

Oh so I need to get past giving military aid to sworn enemies of America, people who have publicly stated America is their enemy...

Holy War has been going on for thousands of years. This is just the crusades all over again but with better technology. The result will be the same. We'll spend a 100 years killing each other and accomplish nothing. This is human nature...kill others who disagree with you. Give them weapons, don't give them weapons...it does not matter. If it is not Syria then it will be Iran, if it is not Iran then it will be Iraq, if not Iraq then Libya, or Egypt, or Lebanon. Am I the only concerned about this sentence? How does one "seemingly" show cutting out and eating the heart of an enemy? The liver I could see, that is in the abdominal cavity with easy access. However, the heart is encased in bone. When we dissected cadavers in gross anatomy lab we needed a specialized bone saw to cut through the thoracic cavity and get to the heart. One cannot simply carve out a heart with a bowie knife.Crispin

I know this may not win the most popular vote here, but,
WHO ARE WE TO SAY WHAT ANOTHER COUNTRY DOES WITH THEIR RESOURCES?
As Americans, we don't let other countries come dictate to us, as to what we do with our oils, natural gas, etc.
And in our vanity, we think ourselves to be ruler of the planet? No wonder the world hates us, (our government)!
I didn't think there was enough oil in Syria to matter to us either, it's something else.
Perhaps the contracts that will come from the work, to get the refineries stable for Europe.
Cheney and Halliburton probably has headquarters over there already, Not to mention a few other "profiteers of war" companies.

And yeah, I got a problem with those radical muslims, that I know wish to slice my head off, just because........
Same as I do the radical Christians that hate with ferocity, the same way radical muslims do.
The hate really needs to stop, but I don't see us (as Americans) converting any radical muslims to be better human beings.
They will forever hate, destroy, and make war, in any land they occupy. They will never be happy anywhere on this planet, unless everyone hates and kills, like they do. If anyone will have an effect on turning their hatred into mutual cooperation for the good of everyone, it will be those that know them best, their own citizens and countrymen. Unfortunantly, most good, honest, decent, modest muslims in these countries, are scared to death to stand up to the radical hate-filled bullys, too! They KNOW and SEE what happens to their neighbors that do!

Yeah, I'm serious. How many humans have you been hunting exactly? Human anatomy is just a wee bit different. If it was that easy to access through the diaphragm then why does open heart surgery leave a 12 inch scar down the middle of your chest? We have laproscopy you know....

I will only say this on the cherrypicking of a statement and dissecting it to make a different point . The reason a Doctor goes through the chest is they are saving a life, if not you reach up under, (from my hunting days). I point this out because a few posts used this example to prove a misguided point.

And Putin asked why we would back cannibals the other day too. It is a terrible day when Putin lectures us on morality! And is on higher moral ground.
