Re: Basic Spanish signs and symbols you have found

I was wondering if owls almost always have two ears as in the picture above? Its a beauty. Thanks.
They usually did use a horned type owl as a sign.
many time they simply used a capitol letter M.
There is another sign that resembles an elongated single lined flying bird with eye spots under the wings.
It looks like a lowercase M with spots under the humps.

Also, when examining the hole in the rock below, which seems to be a trail marker ( there is one every 40 paces or so, but let me know if you think it is not.) ..what should I consider or measure? The rock is likely 3-5 feet tall.
Getting my gps in a few days and hope it helps in making sense of all I have found on this site.
Moons,
The hole may be a natural one, does it make a peep hole?
If not it may have just been used to prove an oddity in the trail.
30 to 40 paces is just about consistant with a normal trail.
If the signs all start to get smaller consistently...
and they start to get as close together as 11 to 14 paces,
you will want to go a little slower and make sure not to miss anything.
You will (by experience ) find false trails that will lead you out into nowhere .
and you will have trouble distinguishing true signs from false ones meant to mislead.
It will be nice to have a GPS reading to come back to,
instead of hunting half a day for the original starting point.
No need to measure anything as of yet.
If your signs are still 40 paces apart... just follow them out.
don't worry about the measurements yet.
(make the measuring easy and get a piece of cloths line measure off 25 Varas and carry it with you.
Mark off the varas with a Sharpie Marker.
( a vara is 33 inches and was the standard measurement of the day)
Hope this helps.
You are sure getting the hang of this stuff.
Kind of fun isn't it?
