I find these Lost Dutchman Mine threads amusing & watch them wildly drift. Didn't this start out trying to figure out who had small feet? Tex Barkley had small feet for his size, Brownie Holmes was a small man & had small feet. Barkley didn't like all the treasure hunters wandering around messing up his ranch & was known for messing w/ clues. Holmes was just a screwball. Who shot @ who? Who cares, they're all gone now to be replaced by other screwballs. The Apache sacred cave is close to the mine, those who look after the cave now know the mine was worked out in the 1800's. Waltzes seemingly contradictory directions get all mixed up because some of them send you toward caches, not the mine. You want to find gold look for caches. I know & am related to some cave watchers but haven't been there in decades. No, I won't take you there, sell a map, give directions, etc. I did my Sup wandering decades ago when I was much younger. Now everyone can start flaming me...

My memory is fading on me one day at a time, but wasn't there some story about Ed Piper being allowed to camp and dig around the Weaver's Needle area in the 50's or 60's but had a "deal" with the Apache (or at least some Native Americans) that he had to leave the mountains on a certain date each year. I don't remember it having anything to do with treasures per se' but rather sacred location(s) and ceremonies they held. Is that related to the cave you're speaking about?
there was a tv show in the 70's hosted by leonard nimoy called in search of...he did an episode of the lost dutchman....there was an indian on the show talking about a secret cave and you had to have a blue and white stone to enter...i believe the indians name was phillip cassadoreI don't know if Piper had a deal w/ the Apaches but Glenn Magill did, he mentions it in his book The Killer Mountains. It's the same cave I mentioned. There are ceremonies held every year relating to the ancient belief they came out of the underworld there. Magill agreed to be away certain times, as a halfbreed I wasn't allowed to attend the ceremonies either, I was trusted to help keep others away. For the record no sacred objects are kept in the cave now.

Sad as I'm sure it is for the Native's who respect that area, it's a wise move making sure there is nothing there anymore - it doesn't take much for stuff to disappear out there![]()
i have a copy on my external hard drive but it got corrupted and i cant access it...the episode was on youtube a while backHi Dave, I have a copy of that somewhere and will have to re-watch it for that part. I think there was a story about a cave somewhere that you had to pass 2 rattlesnakes or something like that to get in too. The name Cassadore is a San Carlos family name.
Exactly, @ one time some things were cached @ various sites (I know locations but won't describe them) but some people have no respect & tear up everything.
