Barry Storm's Mr. X

Travis by his own words said he power washed them at a car wash. I would imagine the same holds true then as now. You can remove hundreds of years with a good power wash. Hell they make things hundreds of years old look new in museums which they are in a Museum are they not. And parts of the museum stones are replica’s. If you are not looking at the original’s how can you make a sound judgment.

They had power washers at car washes in 1947?.....you never cease to entertain mick. :laughing7:

Well sure they did, the 40’s was the boom time for car washes sprung up all over in the us.

Wrong again dave last I brought this up a older fellow Tom K. Said there was a dinner Post Office a zoo and a cafe and around the back was a car wash and he would haul water from there to peoples holding tanks for the guy that owned it.

Babymick1

So...what did he do, place the stone tablets on the conveyor track and hope for the best?
maybe he had the deluxe wax job as well.

Now Travis said exactly he washed the maps at a car wash in Apache Junction no where else but there.
And he did not know the heart was removable till it flew out and broke when washing them.
He glued it back together later.

His story matches with places that were there at the time.

He glued the heart together? This was before he took the photos of the tablets at that gas station?
I suppose, hell I always carry a tube of rock glue around with me cause ya never know when you may need to glue a treasure map back together.

mick....there was no power car wash in a.j. back then...the only car wash they had was hand wash...when car washes did come to town they were not self serve like today..in other words you didn't drop money in the machine and man the power wand yourself....you paid someone and they washed your car....please mick...go back to school and finish your education:occasion14:

This is a modern power washer but one from the 40’s would still look very similar, I do not see a power washer in your photos mick.
if you expect us to understand what you mean, you will need to use common language. A automatic car wash station is not a power washer.

travis didn't wash those stones at a car wash in a.j. he carved them...why would he need to wash them?

I’m not saying that was the car wash there. You two are saying there was no power washer there. Hydraulic water pressure was use for mining in the 1800’s They were automatic by the 40’s

babymick1 Tom K. Was a wealth of knowledge

exactly alan...power wash car washes that you actually use the wand yourself didn't come to az until the 60's

Lets get one thing clear first, in the photos of the door stops on the front bumper of the car, was the heart stone glued at that time?
and where was that photo taken?

yes he was..i knew tom...but tom was born around 1940....he probably didn't even own a car until 1960...he would have no knowledge of car washes in az in the 1940's.....i learned alot about what arizona was like in the 40's from carrol ingle...he was here and was an adult at the time

Not only just been washed, Mitchell had them professionally cleaned and treated to bring out more details

Well I grew up in the 60’s and driving the farm truck at seven years old tractor too.

i've probably posted this before but for mick's benefit i'll post again....travis (or pegleg) had some stone maps but they were considerably smaller than the ones in the museum...his family testifies to this and also a neighbor of mine has a small stone map that his father found out by florence junction...i have seen this map and so has tom k. the maps that are in the museum (and the many copies floating around) are nothing like the smaller stone maps travis and my neighbor has..these are crudely carved and much smaller...they were carved in a hurry...unlike the large maps that travis carved...he had plenty of time to carve those
