It is March 10th and I have not been at my desk at work once. I have had two weeks of business trips with a small stop back home in between. That combined with rainy weekends meant that I have not gotten out much in the last couple of weeks and man it was killing me.

Yesterday Bill and I got together and though the day started out with a huge unforeseen circumstance, it meant that we had to scramble to save the day and find a new site. I was lucky as finally a landowner I have been after for some time was home and permission was granted!

Spent the majority of our time wandering around looking for a couple of spots we had researched, finally during the second half of our day it paid off. At first it was slow, but it became steady and productive.

My take for the day was 23 buttons, two coins, colonial buckles, and plenty of trips to look forward to.

Bill had a heck of a day and I could only do all I could to keep up with his silver...though I did not bag any silver coins, I did get a nice VA Half Penny, 1810 Large Cent, and a complete shoe buckle and 80% of another. I stayed in one small spot for about 70% of my time and located a large pit that has the best potential yet this season. Early pottery, glass and the shoe buckle and pewter spoon all came from it. The Large Cent came right at the edge of it along with several buttons.

I like the small brass lock and the large cast iron one that I dug. I also picked up a nice broken point - this place just has it all. I will let Bill post his, but lets just say not only did his streak continue, but it left me in the dust. I can't wait to get back to this spot as I suspect it has plenty of more goodies to find.

Great finds, love those early colonial sites. Glad you where able to save the day.

I'd say you're not just in the saddle Dan - you're taking off in a full gallop. You had a killer day with an awesome assortment of colonial finds that can rarely be dug in a single hunt. That whole shoe buckle is my favorite. Never seen one like that come out intact. Can't wait to get back there and see what other treasures we can unearth. I'll post my stuff as soon as I get a flat tire fixed at Costco.

Congrats on some great finds Dan!! The coppers and buttons are nice but the shoe buckle is amazing. Looks like that site will be producing for a while. What's the rattail spoon made out of??

Looks great Dan. We would kill for a spot like that right now. I would wear it out, and I'm sure you guys will. Congrats on a good site. Tennessee digger

Thanks Joey...we had fun as we usually do. The spoon is pewter, hope to find the rest of it on the next trip.

It's ALL good DAN but that shoe buckle is STELLAR my friend!!! CONGRATS... HH

That's a lot of stuff!!! Why do you suppose so many buttons in one area? Good haul, congratulations!

The sites we hunt are 200-300 years old, lots of activity over the years for items to fall off, break, lost, etc. Also more buttons were worn on clothing back then and were hand sewn...all those plus many other factors combined and you can get on a lot of buttons and other items. I have found sites that literally thousands of buttons were found on.
