Armed Texas Dad Takes on THREE Home Intruders

This Dr's. wife in CT. went to the bank and gave the murders what they wanted. CASH.
But it didn't end there.
Do you remember this ??

Wow, I stay out of this forum for a while and...kaboom! Right back to the Hitler comparisons on the 8th post of a thread about a man saving his children. If we are "living under a rock" then it is fair for me to say: "You guys are REALLY a piece of work."

I'm glad this worked out for the man; however, three to one odds sounds pretty poor. With my wife and children in the house...I would have just given them the money and sent them on their way. Who knows what really happened but I don't own anything that is worth risking the life of my wife, child, or puppy.

Something to think about before shooting first, shooting some more, keep shooting, and then when everybody is dead try asking a couple of questions.

As usual you guys are comparing apples to oranges.

The examples you and TH give are of innocent people who were unarmed and were victimized by criminals.

Crispin and I are trying to say that "shoot first, ask questions later" is the problem.

See above for at least 4 examples of people who did just that and ended up killing the criminals who were unarmed. Protecting your personal property is not worth taking someone's life - even if they are a criminal.

Read stand your ground and castle law.

They do not have to be armed, you only have to be in fear of your or your love ones lives.

on ther way. Look at that article .The Dr's wife thought they would leave if she gave them the money too.

They raped his wife and two little girls before burning them alive.

Ben it is your choice what you do with your families lives and safety just as it is our choice what we do.

In Fl we have both castle law and stand your ground law.

Time for me to sound like Stockpicker...sorry folks. This is an N of one, you are cherry picking, I can find just as many of the opposite examples. In other words, this example has no relevance to the otherwise semi-intelligent conversation that was occuring. I don't need to read any articles or hear anybody's stories about atrocities committed by one human to another? Do you get it yet? I know a heck of a lot more about this then 99% of you. You just read the newspaper...I hear the stories from the survivors. I do this on a daily basis. Off my soap box.

TH, I am not doubting you on your knowledge of those laws and I am not an expert in such areas... However, You are doing a fine job of avoiding addressing my "shoot first ask questions later" argument.

I dont care if the law says they dont have to be armed. Do you think it is ok to kill these people if they are not presenting an immediate danger to you (aka shoot first)? Is it ok to shoot someone through a locked door? What if they eneter your home and do not show any signs of having a weapon and are clearly intoxicated and confused? is it ok to shoot him?

The main point in this whole argument is that you guys seem to think it is still the "wild west" while the rest of us realize that it is actually 2013.

J.B. Hate be to the bearer of bad news but some parts of Jersey are as bad as the wild west. Newark, Irvington, Jersey City ,Camden just to name a few.
The thugs are armed I'm not. I have to go back to Newark this afternoon to pick up some
parts that I had machined. I 'm not looking forward to it.

Do yourself a favor and skip over my post from now on.

No thanks, I'll read and respond like everybody else does. Why don't you do yourself a favor and skip over mine instead? I know some people like to state things and get frustrated when others make logical points to the contrary; however, that is not going to stop me from doing it. Remember to always control your emotions or somebody else will.

Ben if they break into my home to rob or assault me or my family armed or not, I consider it imminent danger and I will react accordingly.

Is it night or is it day, there are some variables, at night breaking in drunk and coming towards my wife or myself I will say stop one time, if they continue I will most likely open fire, if they have a weapon of any kind at all I will open fire first. I will not endanger my wife or myself waiting for them to fire the first shot.

If they are armed with only a cap pistol that is their problem, they are one who chose the path of crime.

Dear Mr. Miller,

I assure you that I am as much naive as you are wise. My simple point is that three to one odds is not a good ratio. If all three are armed you better be an all-star with your firearm to take all three out before one of them opens fire on you. Be careful who you sling insults at on this website. Some of us bite back.

Sincerely,

Crispin

Dear Doc, Do the words "12 guage home defense shotgun" mean anything to you?

All I can say is "wow"!

I think it's time for me duck out of this conversation.

Dear Austin,

We are a little ahead of you on posts. Also, how big are 12 guage shot guns? Unless you got one loaded sitting right next to you at all times then how long is it going to take you to get it. Also, if you have a child at home is it the smartest idea to have easy access to a loaded 12 guage shot gun at anytime? What happens if you keep one next to the couch, do you take it with you when you go to the bathroom? Think about it, with young ones in the house, only takes a child a second to have a fatal accident.

Let's all but these arguments in perspective. As I posted earlier, training, and intensive training breeds confidence, and sorry to admit but multiple assailants are not even a concern, period. It your familiarity, and ability with a firearm are minimum, than any one would suggest that until such time as you gain confidence with the weapon, and your mind, you might think of another solutution. Simply owning a gun, might make you feel like Rambo, but it also means that usually the first one injured will be you!

We've debated the question of respondsibilty, and morals enough to not need any more say, but what is not debated is your mental state at time of stress. You have no idea until that time arrives what will happen, and how you will react. The better, and more highly trained and practiced you are, the less you think about, and worry about, you react instinctively, and quickly. There is plenty of time to relive the moment later. the less youhave to think, the quicker your reaction time, and the quicker the situation is defused, or eliminated. Sound cruel? Perhaps, but home defense, and the proper and precise way to defending ones-self and his family aren't learned on forums, on tv, or in the movies. They are drilled into your subconsciense, and mind until they are second nature. If you have to think, and not react, you've lost you edge.

I've said enough on this subject, and it's not one I like discussing. That lowers my edge. you always have the best defense when everything is over before you have to think about. Prepare and practice.....An learn from ones who experience this on a daily basis. I've said too much, and beg that what I have said makes sense, and if it disturbs you, so be it. This is not a subject to be handled lightly! Thank you!

My link seemed to upset you so I’m suggesting for you to skip over them.

I doubt very much you or anyone else will ever control my emotions. :-)
