North , Fla.
I have posted my pipe on other threads here but I am trying to put a culture to it. I found it on the Gulf coast of North central Florida and I can't find out much about it other that it's around 1000 to 2500 years old or older and that it's the only bird effigy pipe of it's size 7 1/2" L X 4 " H X 2 3/4 " W ever found in Florida. So does anyone have any Ideas? 8) 8) 8) :)

It looks Columbian or pre Columbian period, I am no expert. I have spent years digging in antique shops in Asia and it’s not from that area. It looks Aztec the bird eye pointing to the handle. Central or South America area maybe. Must have taken along time to make. Nice find.

It looks Mississippian??? I think it's a lot older than 2500 years. I would say 5ooo to 8000. The Mississippian culture stretched into Florida. I wouldn't talk about it too much. It's illegal to even pick up arrow heads in Florida :o :o. Tony

Thanks for the info I'll check into that. This pipe has been in my collection for many years and is not a recent find but in the last few years I have been trying to learn as much as I can about it. 8) 8) 8) :)

Tony , thanks for the info on the pipe I will add it to the data I already have and yes I know about the current laws here in Florida . My pipe has been in my collection for many years 41 years to be exact. Over the past few years I have been trying to get as much information as I can on it's meaning to the culture it came from. So I need to nail down the culture first.8) 8) 8) :)

To me it looks like Pacific Northwest Indian. The eye on the bird is very similar to totem pole designs. Was this posted he in the Indian
section?

I would say that the lines on the pipe are in such good condition do to it being covered by the mud and sand that I found it in. Thanks for your opinion though. 8) 8) 8) :)

Looks like it is from the Parrothead culture. Any chance it was found in the vicinity of a Jimmy Buffett concert?

Cool pipe! What kind of stone is it?

the pipe is most likely not a "local" tribe (darn tourist)-- there is little quality stone in florida to make things with , so often stone was traded for with tribes from northern georgia --indains "often" traded things with other groups and often made long trips to do so.-- the design used on it looks like northwest pacific / alaskan native type design or a south american type design-- def out of place in a florida indain area *

I don't think it's coral I can't see any coral polyops on it.
