Civil war artifacts all over. This is 34"deep. It's giving me the high iron tone on 12khz and 18khz.

Just curious. How far did your wife have to travel to bring you a pick axe? Mine would be willing to go approximately 100 yards to bring me one. Any further and I would be on my own.

Mine drove 8 miles, now she's headed home to cook me dinner! Lol

Well I didn't give up and I'm going to pay for it later. Going to need a pain pill for my back now. Anyway I got it out. All the while I was digging I was having delusions of grandeur ....artillery piece....anchor off a long forgotten ship....nope ....junk! Solid iron though...but it looks like a modern stake with wings.

Now how am I going to fill this hole and make it look like I wasn't here.

Well I hope you guys had fun watching me bust my rear end for this, but like you said, you never know. One thing I am impressed with is how deep this Deus is. I only had the TX power on 2 with sensitivity on 85. The initial signal was a high whispy sound. I had actually dug a Wheatie out of the same hole (about an inch or two). I ran my coil over the hole like I always do and got another high whispy signal. That's when I kept digging and you see the end result.

been watching and waiting to see what you pulled out. sorry you did all that work for that.... but thats the fun of the dig is to see what it is. the first time i met whammy(a fellow member on here) we went to a park in our little town which has decent history for how small it is. i got a decent signal ended up digging down atleast 12" just to find a metal piece of junk strap but owell it was fun. i did find a few older pop tops so i kept those for my bottle and can collection. so its not a huge loss for you other than your poor back.

Thanks again all. It's been fun having you all on the ride. I'm going to get cleaned up and make another post about a two piece button I found. Need your expertise if available.

If you're getting broken fence posts that deep, I'd start thinking there's been a lot of fill dumped over that site... Are you getting anything good in the top layers?

I had high hopes for an old site here just to find a chunk of rail road track about two feet deep.... it's still there if anyone wants it....

Oh I'm getting some good stuff from civil war bullets, to some unidentified old stuff.

Thanks for bringing us on your adventure! You made the right choice, when in doubt, dig it out. It would eat at you if you hadn't. Another way to look at it is the law of averages, you are going to have so many non productive digs before you have some productive ones; you are now a step closer to a productive one.

I'm going to do another live dig thread tomorrow. I just re-looked some old maps and in going to move about 200m from where I was today. Should be able to pull some interesting things up.

OMG, that is one of the finest examples of a barb wire fence post base as I've ever seen in my life.

I don't believe I've ever seen a finer one in all my days. No sir, never a finer one than this.

My most sincere and heartfelt congratulations and a big pat on the back.

Can you dig another?

I will under no circumstances dig another! lol You should have seen me, I was so tired I was laying down on my side picking at that concrete dirt!

I agree. Looks like an anchor from what little is visible.
Be careful though. Things this deep can be utilities (electric, water, sewer, etc..)
No need to make the front page of the local newspaper...

Oh well, that's what I get for submitting it way after I typed it. I blame my kid, dealing with an ungrateful 10 yr old full of raging hormones pulled me away. Won't let it happen again. lol

Jadocs - any Zima caps? ;)

I'm late to the thread, but I would sincerely advise you to get a bigger shovel. I labored for years thinking a bigger shovel would be too cumbersome. I was wrong. It's not as difficult to haul around, and it cuts down on the time it takes to dig deep signals by more than half.
