Went to the 1820โ€™s property for a hour and did pretty good. I got a gold guilt, looks like another floral and canโ€™t read what is says on the back, a clay marble, glass marble, old car and a black glass bottle neck. Looks like Iโ€™ll be starting bottle digging in 2019. Any opinion on the button feedback would be appreciated. Thanks for looking. Yep, I just rotated it and increased the size, so when you click on it two more times after opening, it is quite a bit larger and the letters are a little more readable! However, it definitely needs some toothpicking between and around the letters in hope of being able to ID the backmark.

I just found my brush can you make it out better? Man Iโ€™m sitting at the kitchen table racking my brain as we speak IMG_0012.jpg

Awesome brush! Mine has brass bristles! If you brush it anymore you will absolutely ruin it.

Take a toothpick and clean around the letters. I'm sure it's a known back mark

Thatโ€™s the best I can do, but thanks anyway Steve. Iโ€™ve been racking my brain on the Internet try to figure out what it says with a free magnifying box I got 5 years ago with a ATP. My last hope is THECANNONBALLGUY!!
I PMโ€™d him hopefully he checks in this week [emoji1317]

yep, its the one my granny lost when she went visiting down there a few years back

Cool clay marble. Looks like it might be porcelain or polished. I found one like yours last year at an old 1800โ€™s permission. Congrats

Take one these items, flour, ground up white chalk or talcum powder, even plaster of Paris, dry, and lightly sprinkle on the back. Rub it lightly with your finger. The contrast is the only thing that will bring out the backmark. Removing the corrosion will make the backmark disappear. That's not dirt there. After you fill up the cleaned "holes", the letters will appear better and you should be able to get a better picture.

Then post it. Then clean it off with just water. I checked my button book and didn't see it.

Wow, you found the General Lee!

Truth, Congrat's on the find of the civilian Floral button. The gold gilt is beautiful. Well Done.

Iโ€™m not sure but it did wipe clean. Itโ€™s my 6th clay marble. I love it when I see them.

Iโ€™m on it!

The was a William Eaves who worked for Scovills. Born in England, he came to the US in 1829. I see no reference for any backmark he made.

From what I see so far (waiting for new pics), it' ...ans & Co. Superfine. There are I believe two names there.
