Looks like the operating part of a ball valve to me. I just replaced one 2 days ago and took it apart to see what made it tick.

Just a guess, could it be part of a tranny shift rod for a Mower?

I found the same thing not too long ago. Still not sure what it is.

One of those laundry balls that you throw in the washer and don't use soap, and it oxidizes the water and ariates, as well as moves ions around for "super cleaning". Later proved a total scaming hoax.

single handle faucet part. usually used in kitchens. Called the ball assembly. delta brand comes to mind.

Ox knob, or horn weight is unlikely due to size.

What's horn weight :icon_scratch:

Too small or too big to be an Ox knob? :D

Too small. They were things put on the end of horns that actually caused the horn to turn down as it grew. Good for less gorings, although some think the balls on the end of the horns accomplished that. I think too many holes. Haven't taken apart my delta faucet yet. I have to wait until the weekend so that when I have problems, the plumbers charge double to fix it. That's the way it happens at my house.

Quotes from posted thread:

http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,319711.0.html

Ox balls are put on the tips of horns on vicious cattle

They slid it over the horn, screwed it down, and cut off the excess horn flush with the knob

I don't see why it would be too small for that function ???

I thought it might be an ox knob or something as the one I found was in a pretty old field.

Don't make my go out and get my 80 year old cowboy friend. We just had this discussion a couple of weeks ago. In fact, if you persist, I think I have an old horn with a weight on it that I will just be ornery enough to go and dig out to post. Or just remember back to the pictures of the big herford bull that you have seen with his horns pointed straight down.

Notice the seated DIME of size comparison??? Horn weight or Ox ball is larger. Also the holes would be threaded ( the small ones.

Hmm did they make a goat horn weight??

looking at break downs for ball valves I wont discount that ..

Here are some threaded and some unthreaded ox balls with similar holes for comparison. Tapered hole makes sense. I dont know what is the smallest size maybe someone has a catalog.

The small holes are tapered as well, gives me the idea of a tapered drift pin?

Yes its an exact match. Its not my pic and I dont know if the small holes are tapered. The credit for the ID goes to Ironspike. HighPlainsDigger, please do not disassemble your kitchen faucet. :D
