AGE OF THE EARTH...

If the world is 4.5 billion years old, then explain to me how a rock with a footprint in it can surrvive in the elements for that long? The world isn't billions of years old. Why is it that human bones only last around 5 months before they become un-noticed but yet these so called dino bones are 4.5 billion years old.

People are known to make up things and the world being that old is one of them.

The explanation is that you have a pre-existing belief that demands any information accommodate it.

You are partly correct though. People have been making things up, ever since the first caveman looked into the sky and wondered.

Not sure where you are getting those figures.

The oldest-known tracks of a creature apparently using legs have been discovered in rock dated to 570 million years ago in what was once a shallow sea in Nevada. http://www.crystalinks.com/fossilfootprints.htm

The oldest dinosaur bones yet discovered date back to the high Triassic period, between 235 and 240 million years ago, when the dinosaurs were first developing from older reptiles called Thecodonts. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/1352871.stm

To learn more of the fossilization process please read: http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Fossilization

* I have not been able to find the age of the Earth stated anywhere in the Bible.

Respectfully,
GG~

There are plenty of unknown things out there, strange objects that appear to be manmade yet are embedded in rock that is millions of years old, items encased in rock that defy logic and have no reasonable explanation, yet. That isn't to say they can't be explained, it merely suggests we are incapable of explaining them at present.

With this in mind, do you still want us to follow everything science tells us? You admit that they don't have the answers.

Pays to be careful when talking about this stuff

I worked for a University for about a decade, during which time I always enjoyed the student/workers who would work part time while attending school. They were, well, excited still, about life. Open minded, they'd question things, including themselves and their own ideas.

One particularly neat, and cute, and if I wasn't married and much older neat and cute wouldn't cut it...but anyway. I don't know how we got talking about classes, but she, thanks in part to my suggestion, took an anthropology class. Next thing I know her parents found out and hauled her rear out of school and back home!

Or we could follow an ancient set of superstitions and laws penned in the same enlightened part of the planet that brings us suicide bombs and burkhas only, and perhaps more importantly, thousands of years before electricity or even inkpens during a time when either might have gotten you murdered for witchcraft. Back when sacrifices were commonplace. Ignoring science in favor of ancient beliefs...? No thanks, I'll take my chances with Mathematics, Geology, Astrophysics, Zoology, History, Oceanography...etc. You may have all the ancient writings that you want, all for you.

Science will literally NEVER have all the answers because every answer begs more questions. Religion attempts to answer all questions with a single answer and my friend, NO, that is absolutely NOT good enough for me. I need more than "because God did it" as an answer when I ask why the sky is blue(water vapor and such, thank you science).

It is far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

And where is Carl Sagan now? Will he ever come back from the dead?

Here's another saying.

He is happy who sees the blue sky and cares not why it's blue.

You see, we are given all things to enjoy, not to break apart and try to find out why they work. I will enjoy what I have.

Blissfully strolling trough life without question or concern is not my way Old Silver. I respectfully disagree with you. I am not saying you are wrong, just not right for me. I would like to know more. I am inquisitive by nature and I enjoy learning new things even when they go against what I thought I knew...

Carl Sagan is dead. Sadly.
Cheers!

You misunderstand. I want to know more, just a different kind of knowledge.
Tree of Life vs. tree of knowledge. Wisdome vs. Faith. But faith is not things you don't know. Just the opposite.

Would we have bombs without science? So who gave the suicide bombers their bombs?

It is also science and technology that allows us to heal the sick and repair the damage done by bombers. Modern medicine...
I understand faith and have no quarrel with the devout. I do take issue with those that stifle the progress of science in the name of religion. That is a sin to me. I enjoy lively Biblical conversations with my best friend(she is a devout Evangelical Christian) and we agree to disagree more often then not but one thing we always agree on is the basic tenets are to be kind and understanding as much as possible. That to me is crucial to anyone regardless of whether they believe in God, Allah, Jaweh, Zool, Satan or nothing at all. Being a decent person.

Science gave us explosives. God just gives some people a reason to use them now...

But we're not talking about healing the sick, but about bombs and bombers. Bombers could not bomb without bombs to bomb with. Sure they would find a way to kill, but it was suicide bombs that you brought up.

No, science doesn't heal. Medicine does not heal. True, it helps us, but it doesn't heal.

Mans killer instinct gave us bombs....

Science is one of the most important things in the world...We would still live in Caves without it...It is the answer to the future......Bombs do not kill people by themselves, it takes a person to do that....Suicide bombers are the lowest of scum.....

So bombs don't work on a scientific principal? Do a study on the A bomb and it's inventors.

We might be better off in caves, before the invention of bombs and other scientific "achievements" that cause death. Bombs do not kill people by themselves? so if you accidentally pull the pin on a grenade, nothing would happen, as long as there was no ill will involved?
BTW, I'm not defending suicide bombers, just trying to keep things in perspective.

No, if you pull the pin it will go off, BUT it did not pull its own self...A person did it..That same bomb that kills can be used for good things also, such as mining, or paving the way for bridges, dams, and even art work...Look at Mount Rushmore.....I would not be better off in a Cave...The very fact that we are having this discussion over the Computer proves at least some of the usefulness of Science, AND the fact that we take it for granted....Yes almost anything can be used for evil...Hell a stick can kill just as effectively as a gun.....People having been killing each other since the dawn of man...Be it for God, or land, or Gold..It does not matter....It is not Science that is evil, it is not knowledge that is evil, it is evil that is evil...(Man what a sentence that was..) You have these religious fanatics now that are hell bent on the destruction of America, and no I do not mean Christians..They do not care who they hurt in the process....It is not PC to point a finger, and say Muslim, but oops, I did.......Tom

BTW, just to be on topic...The Earth is REALLY old.....

If I've been reading this right...

...the point is something like, guns don't kill, people don't kill, scientists kill? But then, scientific research which has provided medicines...etc., etc., doesn't heal...meaning only God heals.

So, God heals, science kills?

It would make a great bumper sticker, or t' shirt. But as a logical argument, imho, it doesn't work.
