I'm still in absolute shock. I went out to place that I've been to dozens and have done really well. After digging a bunch of junk targets and a WWII button I decided to try the other side of the area where I've never had any luck. Previously I'd only dug trash targets out of there. But today I noticed a stonewall that I hadn't seen before. After a few minutes I got a strong signal and almost passed it over because of all the trash of my previous times being out there. Out popped this copper. I knew it was different and that I had seen it before but I wasn't sure what it was. I texted a friend the picture and that I thought it might be a bust of George Washington. When I got home I looked it up and almost felt faint. I remembered looking at it before and not thinking much of it because I assumed I would never find one. I will be going back tomorrow and spending the day there. I have no cleaned it and haven't really handled it. The first picture was when it was fresh out of the ground.

Well if he isn't, he's a pretty hard person to please!

I guess a little pepto bismol did the job, even for an illness created by one of those dug coppers that isn't worth anything. :laughing7: Too bad it wasn't a Barber quarter! ;)

Yep! Be a lot less "butterflies" and anxiety if it was a Barber!:icon_pale:

I can't stand the suspense, I'd of had a heart attack by now if I had found this. Its making me nervous just reading about it. I wish you best of luck Slasher, what an awesome find, I'd be back at that spot with permethrin bug spray, sprayed right on my skin to keep the ticks off checking for other coins day and night.

You lucky dog, haaaa

So are you feeling a little better yet? ;)

Yes. More than any potential monetary value, it feels really good to have found something new.

Yep, that's what makes this hobby great, when you can bring something new to light, and especially something so substantial.

Now that the "cat is out of the bag", so to speak, if it were mine, I would start entertaining offers. Not only that, I would write an article to Coin World mag, to get some exposure and let big collectors know it's out there. Crazy......IT'S YOUR COIN.......YOU do what YOU feel is right for YOU! DEFINITELY.......FIND OF THE YEAR.....(IF not decade on here!)

I think he should donate it to the Iron Patch Numismatic Society.

YA BABY!!! Hundred dollar bills! I like those! They're easier to carry.

Sweet find! Banner!

Belated congrats on a fine BANNER find! :notworthy:

Totally inexcusable belated congratulations, but as they say, “Better late than never!” Hey, late replies at least give your thread staying power. As I detectorist and a collector, I have to say that you’ve made a real thrill of a find.

good lord, I know where I'm going on vacation

Just wanted to give an update that the coin was sold this weekend.
