For myself the prospecting window for this year has closed and since some have indicated they would like to see more pictures I will start off with the attached offering. The pictures are all taken in the Sierra Nevada Range in Northern California where I go to prospect and just enjoy "being out there". I usually hike where it is rugged, there are no designated campsites, running water is available in creeks or rivers only and if you want something while you are out there you'd best have brought it with you as the hike out is long and tough. I frequently hike where there are limited or no trails and this takes me into some of the most beautiful country on this earth. I hope you enjoy!

Herb,

Good luck on the surgery and a speedy recovery. Would like to bump into ya someday out there. Lol. If you ever see a guy detecting and not walking a straight line. That's me. No alcohol involved. Unfortunately that's my current state. Just wont give it up.

Thanks Garret! Well, another good offer I will have to wait on for a little while at least. I need both shoulders operated on as well as the left knee. I can see getting two done this year but three might be pushing it. All I need is one good find to clear me of student loans and I'm free, then I can go and do what I want and meeting up with you as well as few other folks on Tnet is on my calendar.

Till then, best of luck with your searching!................63bkpkr/Herb

Herb: Wishing you the best in that surgery, and hopes for a quick recovery afterwards! :icon_thumleft:

Meniere's Disease, by chance?

Haven't been able to walk a straight line in the past 20 years, but like you, I'll be damned
if I'm giving in to it. Funniest part? Not long after the Labrynthectomy a cop sees me walking
across a crosswalk..wandering all over the place (but I stayed between the big yellow lines!),
and then almost went to ground as I missed the curb when I tried to step up. He wouldn't
accept that I didn't drink, and since I was visiting Microsoft he figured I'd tossed a few down
at lunch. Gave me a breathalyzer test right there on the sidewalk...embarrassing, but almost
worth it as the cops eyes damn near bulged when the test came back 0.0%..twice!

Ah the little things that cause us to smile!

Thanks everybody for all the well wishes. My ride should be here in a few minutes and then we are off to la la land. I wonder why they did not want ME to drive?

Lanny, better make that 1,050,000 more miles as I plan on being around for a long time and I Will be busy!

Never heard of Meniere's Disease. I'll have to check on it. Neurologist has no idea of what's causing my left side issues. I've thrown a couple of diseases out for thought. He shot them down right away. I'd sure like an explanation for my condition, but either way, I'll just keep doing my new found hobby until I can't move anymore. My wife gets a little jealous but excited when I show her my finds. That color seems to put a smile on her face as well as mine. Plus my younger kids are having a blast learning how to pan and use the highbanker. Those little specks of color are a great therapy for me and family. Helps to forget. Then when done for the day. Ohhhhhh how it returns. Then I wake up again and start it all over again. Not bad after I force myself out of bed. Lol
And yes, I've had cops look at me, but fortunately never stopped me. One day I'm sure it'll happen. Lol

The only thing that's been said so far is "hydrocephalus", but after 5 brain surgeries and 2 strokes, they say I should be 100%. They have no explanation as for the numbness and loss of feeling, strength and control for the left side.
After I/we get done with running our dirt I'll show the take. Maybe done by tomorrow.
Want to finish this lode so I can get another. What a blast!!!

Garret,
You and others are truly showing the way for the rest of us as to what it means to keep going even with stumbling blocks all along the way! And here I am with a silly shoulder that has just been repaired and I Am on the mend. Thank you for sharing with us!! Looking forward to your pictures........63bkpkr

Prospecting Country

Okay, the last picture posted here was won of Hoser's buddies and as I'm recouping and just sitting around I thought I'd add to the scenery, maybe even do something for the spring fever one way or the other.

2003 Nfar Herb & Jusin 17.JPG River canyon one fine day

2003 Nfar Herb & Justin 1.JPG After the site was cleared. The white & blue tent has since been lost to bear attack

2003 Nfar Herb & Justin 7.JPG Testing, ever testing

2003 Nfar Herb & Justin 8.JPG My son was not impressed

2003 Nfar Herb & Justin 18.JPG Father & Son in camp about to relax for the evening

2003 Nfar Herb & Jusin 15.JPG The day coming to a close

2003 Nfar Herb & Justin 28.JPG One last Hoorah

2003 Nfar Herb & Justin 29.JPG The trail out

Well, I do not understand why the extra pictures are here and I can not seem to delete them so lets live with them. The pool is a side canyon we hiked up and the river/woods shot is the site of where a town used to be.

Herb, thanks for the kind words. Another great set of pics. Your son may not have been impressed, but I was. Look at what I found!! Nobody else has even touched this piece of color.
My wife looks at some of my finds in the pan, says that's nice, then turns around and goes back inside. She'd rather wear I worked piece of gold than pull it out of a hiding place. Lol.
I just told her that I NEED to go dig some dirt so I can process some more in the sluice. She told me to go and play. I'm glad she lets me go have some fun. Though she'll worry about me till I get back home, but that's not a bad thing. Thirteen years of marriage and she still worries. Lol. Either that or maybe she's trying to get rid of me. Lol. Besides her birthday is Saturday.
I'm hoping I get to go hunt with one of my new friends out in the goldfields, but if not I'll be in my fortress of solitude.

Yes John, Yes John,
You can say that again, "I'll Be Back" with a slight German lilt to the words!

GD Az,
Alas, worry does nothing but take away the goodness of what could come from tomorrow!

I met a fellow several years ago that was coming down the canyon wall as I was going up with my dredge unit, he was with a large co-ed church camping group. I met them at my stash point, I was carrying my loads up the mountain in stages all ~ 200 lbs of it. As the three or four of us talked I became quite comfortable with them and gestured in back of them and behind the trees was my stash pile covered by a cloth camo tarp. They looked and could not believe they'd not seen it. Anyway, he shared with me that down river he'd come across a nice crack on the very bottom of the river in a shallow spot and the previous year he'd pulled out two nuggets that were close enough in size that he'd had earrings made as a gift for his wife. I wish for you that you can do the same for your wife!! It could just get her attention........63bkpkr

And for grins and giggles here are a few really 'dated' pictures of the "early years" of canyon crawling........63bkpkr
