For myself the prospecting window for this year has closed and since some have indicated they would like to see more pictures I will start off with the attached offering. The pictures are all taken in the Sierra Nevada Range in Northern California where I go to prospect and just enjoy "being out there". I usually hike where it is rugged, there are no designated campsites, running water is available in creeks or rivers only and if you want something while you are out there you'd best have brought it with you as the hike out is long and tough. I frequently hike where there are limited or no trails and this takes me into some of the most beautiful country on this earth. I hope you enjoy!

AZ Viper, that is not a highjack that is such an awesome welcome sight so feel free to post more I know I would like to see them.

Drywallman, also very interesting pictures of San Diego area though when I was down there I never saw the type of country you are in, way nice.

Thanks guys............63bkpkr

Thank you Drywallman, very nice of you and I'd love to do just that! I was supposed to have a job out there but the company has gone a different direction. I was really looking forward to getting into the old mining area up in apple country.

At the moment it could be possible that my metal detecting/prospecting and most every thing else could get put on hold. I'm being interviewed for a new job and the company is pretty far away, almost 18 hours with layovers its out east as in the Far East. I've never been to China but that is about to change in two weeks. Of course nothing is for certain till the contract is signed. Soon I will have a feel for what I'm going to be doing...........63bkpkr

You are very welcome. I wish you the best, and hope things work wise turn out the best for you.

Herb good luck to you. I think I would like to visit China but I don't beleive I would want to live in China. Keep in touch as your propecting family is just a few clicks away. Here is another photo. This is called Big Balance Rock in Rhyolite Canyon.

AZV, that picture is just so "whack o" awesome! Wow, the folks upstairs sure make some beautiful things.

There are a great deal of ifs in the China connection (sounds like a James Bond Flick) but if I'm there and if I can get on Tnet I will drop a line every now and then.............63bkpkr

Man china bound? Well hopefully ya stay, but if that's where ya gotta go. I'd love to visit there, but not till I win the lotto or find a huge vein somewhere. Lol. Had some fun today. Dragged some kids to the park to detect and play. Found two rings. My first for the year. First was trashy foil kids ring. 2nd was sterling silver. I didn't see marks in the field. Then my son cleaned it and asked what the 925 meant. I was saying "what????". I told him it meant silver. Sterling to be exact. Man what a shocker. 10th hunt or so and finally found something of value. No pic yet. I'll post tomorrow. For the moment. Here's an easy pic. I'll bet you guys will guess this in one guess as far as where.
Hopefully I'll be romping out there in a couple more weeks. Need to find first gold now. Prefer nugget, but I'll take a ring as well lol.
Good luck bkpkr in whichever path ya take. Remember us guys here. Always happy to send pics of home away from home.

Well Garret that picture reminds me of the backdrop scenery for many a John Ford western movie, where, someplace in the U.S. but not Chicago or New York or the East coast and come to think of it not Detroit or any of the plains states and............

Garret just in case you may not have noticed, you already found something way more valuable than that sterling ring. You chose to have your children along with you and to share their father with them. That beats monetary value every time. You are choosing to leave them with a treasure of memories of times together and that makes up for a whole lot of anything else. Oh I'd guess you already do but just a little reminder, do not let them guess or wonder if you love them, tell them as I know you do by what you've posted here but there are times when people need to hear a loving message.

All my best and thanks for your share, I will keep the site up to date with where my life leads me...............63bkpkr :hello:

Thx bkpkr.

After loosing my dad at 15, I had told myself that "if" ever I had kids, I'd always try to tell and show them I love them.
So now after having them, I tell them whether they're doing something good or bad, I love them.
I've got 5 total. Three older ones are my step-kids and the 2 younger are my own. I've always made sure they all know I love them.
It's about the only thing I can give to them. Plus it's free. Lol. Well, a lot of blood sweat and tears along the way, but they know.
I just hope that when they have their families, that they'll remember to do the same. But as long as I'm breathing, I'll tell them and their kids about loving each other.
I thanked my mom and told her she was right, and wished I would've listened and done what they asked, very shortly after having my kids.
I truly see now how life is a circle and definitely an adventure.

Garret your response is a true joy to read! You've got it all spot on!! They will choose to use portions of what you teach them through intentional teaching as well as through them observing your actions in your life and then they will go off on their lives and we as parents will always love them but we must release them to choose what they choose and love them regardless. Thank you.............63bkpkr

It's sure hard to watch the roads they pick, and all I can do is say, that's alright. Lol. Then I hope they learn from their own mistakes and not repeat.
I love the time I can spend with them. Especially if its camping, fishing, MDing. It's just being able to sit by a fire with no outside interruptions and just talk.

And that just might be the meaning of life, sitting around a campfire, really conversing :-)

Could ya tell my wife that? LOL

I'm joansing to camp for a couple days. Was out detecting a wash taking out the lead and shells and was listening to coyotes howling around the hill. While this owl, I couldn't find, was hooting away at me as I was swinging away. It was getting dark and I was thinking, time to get the fire going. Then my phone rings. It's my son telling me to pick him up from work. Ughhhhh
Of course where I was at, is known for the immigrants coming by. Plus I heard an ATV around the bend. Still just to close to civilization.

Only if you tell mine! :-)

Ya I understand totally, about 7:30 in the morning and the only sounds around me are the creek gurgling, the occasional slump of snow falling from a tree, and the tweets of the blue jays, then I hear a diesel truck using his "jake brake" coming down the grade on the highway 6 miles from me... Add in the occasional jumbo jet starting its decent into San Diego, and you realize it's getting harder and harder to get away from civilization. It's still better than sitting on the couch. :-)

Once upon a time long, long ago I had a city born and bred sweetheart who asked me to take her camping. I took her to the ocean for her first overnight tent camping trip. She had a great time but told me it was not the camping where "I went" and she wanted to now go into the mountains with me. What a beautiful trip!

We arrived at the top of the trail near nightfall, I suggested staying at the car but she was game for hiking on in. We did most of the trail by flashlight, holding hands, me telling her what to expect around each turn in the trail, with little lizards running through the leaves and then we stopped and I asked her if she could hear that sound?! Yes was the answer and I told her it was the river. Everything went right, not a single problem for the entire trip save possibly for the food as I brought in what I would normally bring. After that and within three weeks she planned the next trip including the food. So off we went down a different trail but in the daylight and with my pack carrying some food items I'd never even thought of bringing. Over the years we were together we went down all the trails in the area, settled on one as "the best one" and went there several times.

That dear girl planed some awesome dinners and cooked them over an open fire: full Mexican dinner and I mean complete, fresh trout like I'd never had before with fresh vegetables, stuffed squab and oh yes do not forget the wine. Life is really good when your significant other comes along with you. Expect to take some extra time on the way in and out but do make sure she is physically able to easily hike in and out. Take the time in camp to explain things to her, not talk At her but communicate lovingly with her. Make sure she is comfortable at night - good foam pad with a good self inflating air mattress and a sleeping bag that is Clean, fits her and matches the temperatures of the season. Note: her periods at home are bad enough for her so be sure to take her when she will not be having one.

Done in this manner you can expect two or three good trips before the first bad one takes place and trust me IT will take place! She will have the first ones to remember and will go again. And be sure to take care of her every trip, yes this will take time but it will be well worth it as the two of you learn to be with each other "out there". All of this will rub off into part of your city life making it better for both of you, IMHO.

All my best to you both...............63bkpkr

63bkpkr, thank you for the story. I have a tough tune with my wife, because I was raised playing in the woods, hunting, fishing, sleeping under the stars all, my wife is very much a "city girl" unfortunate never learned the "finer things in life" :-).... But I've got her interest. When I know I can take her out for the day and let her find her own first gold... It'll be on. :-)
Till then, she doesn't want to hunt or fish, and would rather sleep in her own bed... Can you blame her?! But she lets me go, and understands that it's " good for me to get away", and for that I am grateful. It usually works pretty well, I go out by myself or with a friend for most of a day, and her and our daughter get some "girl time"
:-)

Yeah my wife is city girl through and through. She says she'll go camping. As long as clean sheets, a bed, and hot water for shower or bath. An RV or a motel is as close as shell come to mtns. I'm fine with an RV, but when I'm out I want to be out. All my kids except my older two are the roughing it type. That's fine. To each there own. I will say though that my wife will go out on the boat to relax and read while I fish. Which is fine too. But at some point she wants to reel in a fish or learn about it. I'll be there to teach her with the patience of a saint. (Hopefully) After all I'm still teaching/re-teaching the kids how to tie the knots and how to handle a fish (gently). Or how to hunt, dress, and clean the game. It's a great feeling to watch your lessons come through in your children's actions.
Bkpkr, thx for that story. I had always wanted a wife like that. God had a different plan for what was right for me. We've been together 13 years now and still lovingly look at each other like school kids. Lol. When you find "that" one. The rest doesn't really matter. That's another trail all it's own.

Just a follow up here - the China job is OFF! I'm staying state side. Really would have been lucrative but the situation was not a positive one so I passed on it. Now, I've three days before my shoulder surgery.......63bkpkr
