Asked permission at two separate farms to detect an adjoining field where a school house once stood. Farmer "A" said that farmer "B" owned the field corner. Farmer "B" had the original school bell on a post in his yard, said I could detect.

Detected for about two hours before a "land owner" came and told my brother and I to leave. ???

OH WELL!!!!!! Left with a toasted wheat penny, and this awesome Barber Quarter. :laughing7::laughing7:

Sunday was a beautiful day!

I would have offered him the Barber. Maybe that would have loosened him up a little. Its always better to give than to receive. You give a little and it comes back to you Tenfold.

Sucks to get shut down, especially on a good spot. At least you found a really nice Barber quarter!

Congrats on that nice Barber and sorry you got the boot. I have only had 3 written permissions. Two from the local state park for 2014 & anotherfor 2105. My third one is for the local Dump property. I research who owns a property prior to asking and when I get a yes and am questioned during my hunt, I simply drop the name of the owner I spoke with. It has works on the few times I was questioned and asked to leave by a concerned neighbor. I also have a few unlimited permissions (by this I mean I can stop and detect whenever I want, no notice required) but most permissions I feel obligated to let someone know I am there to detect before I gear up.

:icon_thumright: Yes, good idea to get a name & a phone# and whatever else you can muster up.
Don't fall for the next store neighbor saying they won't mind spiel.
Always find out who owns the land specifically.
Trespassers are often not looked upon kindly. :stop:
Would you want some stranger in your backyard digging a hole?

Just goes to show ya some ppl are nuts...I have agreements for farmers I and they sign and having a notary partner it works out well.

If someone asked me to sign a paper I would laugh at them and tell them to get lost. :laughing7:
Then the famous and invariable question---"What you looking for gold?"

Of course for those that like to try and get on people's well manicured front and back yards.
Ask yourself if you would allow someone on your's. :lightbulb:
Heck, then I guess I would get a notary and a legal agreement.
Cuz you MIGHT need it. :BangHead:

Of course it all depends on the situation you create........ or don't.

MMMMACK THATS A NICE FIND .....

Some people need to get a life.
It's a FIELD. Next to two FARMS.

How vested could the "land owner" possibly be in a buried coin that he has no idea even exists?
If this were the front lawn of the White House, OK, different story. It's not.

The "land owner" was just being a jerk (in my opinion).

Thanks all for your words of wisdom.

Yeah... all-in-all, I scored. No one got hurt, I found a nice coin, and some poor fool that didn't have a lot going for him got to kick someone off his family's land.

I actually am betting that if I actually asked the guys dad, who was the owner on paper, that he would have said "go ahead! I remember going to that school myself!"

Oh well.... OFF TO THE NEXT SITE FOR MORE BOOTY!
