A Majority of Americans Do Not Want to Defund ACA

It is not my income tax it is My Social Security tax I Paid. It is MY money, it came out of money paid to ME and paid by my employer on MY behalf. I can even look up every single dime I have paid in to my Social Security account. since my first job.

That money I paid in is to an insurance retirement fund called Social Security,*(OASDI) Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance*federal*program and guarantee by US government.

Just like buying life insurance, by paying in my premiums I am guaranteed a retirement when I reach 66. I have paid in all my premiums and come 11/2014 I start drawing my $2350+ that is OWED to me......

We will NOT go quitely into the night!

Sorry, TH.

You may wish that your money is in an insurance retirement fund called Social Security, but your money is long gone. Gone to pay others before you.

Like money in your bank account - it's not there either.

Some long haired gimp was crying about that on the news this AM, when he found out that his kid's money wasn't actually in the bank where they put it.

Nor is the gold that you buy shares of in gold funds. I'd venture to say that the gold has been "leveraged" (a polite term for a very polite business, doncha know) many many times and couldn't begin to be covered if everyone actually wanted their physical ounces out.

I hope the money's there for you; I really do, but to be there the economy and the government have to work so that there is a cash flow.

When the whole thing crashes and we're all killing each other in civil war, there ain't gonna be no Social Security checks.

The money ain't there unless it all works.

Bum I did not say the money they give me is physically the money I gave them, just like the money you deposit in a bank does not stay in your account only the numbers.

You pay your SS into an insurance fund ran by and per the US government. Funds are drawn to pay current retires. I know exactly how SS works, I have been paying it for 52 years.

SS taxes are paid into an insurance retirement fund called Social Security, (OASDI) Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance. The "I" stands for INSURANCE.

I have paid my premiums for 52 years and 1 month, I have 11 more months of premiums due before my SS policy comes to term. That money is owed to me because I paid my premiums into it.

I heartily agree and hope that you get all you deserve. In fact, I don't like the idea that we have to pay income tax on it; just as we get to the point when we can't give blood anymore. Not all of us have the tax-free advantages of the railroad pension retirees.

I LIKE the idea of Social (nasty word) Security, despite all its shortcomings. Like most things in life, it's not perfect, nor even close, but has the charm of working.

My point was that the US Government has to work for it to be there for all of us. Not just SS either - lots of things.

Most Uninsured Americans Ignoring Health Exchange Sites

Implications
The health exchange websites are not only fraught with the technical problems that have led to so much news coverage in recent weeks, but have also generated relatively little interest or use among uninsured Americans -- the primary target group for the exchanges. The majority of uninsured Americans are unfamiliar with the exchanges and relatively few have tried to access them to date, even among those who say that eventually, they will most likely get their insurance through an exchange website.

Americans' Approval of Healthcare Law Declines

"Currently, 73% of Democrats, 39% of independents, and 8% of Republicans approve of the healthcare law. Approval is down at least marginally among all three groups since Gallup's last update in late October. Since the government health insurance exchanges opened on Oct. 1, Americans' views of the healthcare law remained fairly steady even amid reports of widespread technical glitches with the websites.
More recently, President Barack Obama has had to respond to charges that he misled Americans when he repeatedly said those who liked their current insurance plans could keep them. Many insured Americans are now being dropped from their health plans, perhaps because the plans do not meet the minimum requirements for coverage mandated by the healthcare law. Obama has apologized for making those assurances and said he would explore options to help those affected.
The timing of this drop in approval of the law suggests it may be linked to the controversy over the millions of Americans losing their current health insurance coverage.
In fact, in an open-ended question probing Americans' reasons for approving or disapproving of the law, 11% of those who disapprove specifically mention losing their insurance. Another 7% say the president lied about details of the law.
These are not the most common reasons for disapproval, however. The leading complaint is a philosophical objection -- government interference or forcing people to get healthcare -- mentioned by 37% of those who disapprove. Twenty-one percent believe the law will increase costs and make healthcare less affordable. Eight percent specifically mention planning, design, or website problems; another 8% say the law is "not working."

One big difference between NJ and FL is in NJ you can not be Baker Acted into a mental institution or Jail. Quite the opposite from Florida. Just one example of which state is closest to a police state. Apparently Florida has lots of crazy people. or, not so crazy people that the police just want to lock up.

Fed dollars also include all forms of welfare. It also includes federal support of local construction and development projects, highway projects, infrastructure improvements etc etc etc. Without fed dollars you'd have to pay for these projects out of your own pocket, you know ,like we do. That would increase your local and state taxes.

Like it or not for as much whining as your right wing cohorts do about wasteful spending they are the biggest pigs at the slop trough. States defined as the old confederacy are the biggest net recipient states when it comes to spending federal dollars. Blatant hypocrisy!

And of course being from a taker state you defend all this.

Another post trying to bait a member,, This time a mod. Sad very sad.
