Looks like a modern replica to me but what do I know. :icon_scratch:

Nice dig,

Keep @ it and HH!!
I guess there is always skeptics, but I assure you I have better things to do than post fakes.Unless they were making replicas in the 1870's(which everything else at that cabin dates)it is the real deal.

Also why would we age it as seen in the first pic,and then spend hours cleaning it??

I don't think that he was accusing you of posting a fake...he was offering a valid opinion...as valid as anyone elses...

Totally dude. Not an accusation. Many people here have dug items that seemed real, even dug among other items that fit in the same time period. But, alas, they were fake. Fake have been produced for civil war items probably since the early 1900's. meaning, they have had 100+ years to get into the ground and age themselves. Thats why this sight is so great. Lots of really good researchers that can help with i.d. and authenticity. Better to know, than to just believe that you have the real thing. That is a very nice relic, wish I could find one in Oregon.

Hello,

I was not accusing you of posting a fake on purpose. I just thought that the area it was found and how things age you may have just happen to find a modern replica. I just watched a show on youtube and the guy it was about says that lots of fakes are made and still made. Infact you can get them on EBay for $9.99 he says. People will put them underground and age them to sell them as real ones. So by the way yours cleaned up and where you found it just makes me wonder if you found one of those replicas. Sorry if it seemed like a personal attack, by all means I hope its real.

Here is the Show he talks about them in.

Keep @ It and HH!!

Thanks for the explanations,I assure you it is real.Just a little history for you that dont seem to know. That style of plate was actually used before the civil war.I have since found out that they are not uncommonly found in Calif, and it is no wonder, thousands of military troops were stationed at prominant gold and copper mines during the civil war to protect them as stated above.Thousands of both enlisted(deserters)and veterans also flooded the gold fields to search there fortunes, and we find the same stuff on a normal frequency that you guys find back east, just not the numbers. This cabin,or foundation rather where this was found sits in the middle of a two thousand acre ranch and it has been in the present owners family for over a hundred years. So I agree everybody is entitled to there opinions but know the history and facts.

I know of several being found in Oregon. Also instead of presuming something is fake because of condition, how about a compliment on an awesome find and superb job preserving it.I posted this for my friend, because he is proud of as am I.Now I kind of see why he doesnt post anything he finds and I assure you he could fill that banner up there. Heres just a few items we have dug here.......are they civil war enough for ya?

I think your post is misleading then.I didnt mean to be snotty, your right this is an awesome site, partially because like you stated you can learn, which a couple need to do.....These plates date back to 1839,and as stated above there was alot of military action in Calif. So why then is it so unusual that one be found in Calif? Can not superb condition artifacts be found in Calif? Also I know enough about authenticity to know if something I find is fake or not and I sure as hell wouldnt post it and if I didnt know I would state that fact.
