Thanks ALL!!!Yea there are various scenarios to possibly explain how it ended up out here.Quite a few C.W. relics actually do show up out here.There was use of that design before the great war,heavy military occupation before,during and after the war as well.Many of the copper and gold mines had troops protecting them to support the cause.Many veterans also headed west to search there fortune in the gold fields as well.

I guess this stuff was brought by Civil war veterans for the most part. A friend put his shovel right through the middle of one in Nevada. I found an eagle breast plate here in Utah....Kane 23

Nice, there were several forts there in California where many a soldier were sent before, during, and after the Civil War. Nice find

That's a very nice find anywhere in the country... congradulations!!!!

Nice condition too.
Keep searching that area... could be some more goodies hiding in the ground.

GREAT FIND! That's in real nice shape also.
I don't know why everybody thinks it has to be from the civil war?
After the war the US military was all over the western US, a lot of the time fighting the indians.
I know of a couple us buckles that were found in Oregon hunting old military fort sites.

Very true,thanks for all the replies!People dont realize what a big part the minerals of Calif.played in the Great War either :wink:
