something i forgot to mention is that this is a fresh find from the mandan site i have managed since 1988

What was the function of this artifact ? interesting find !


we think ceremonial.......but.......
it was also used as a porcupine quill processor tool......(the bill or beak)
.............imagine 4 young girls sitting in a circle processing quills for inlay on clothing and moccasins......
and showing these tools off to each other as to who would have the prettiest one....times have not changed in many ways
