I ventured out to the small island on the lake we've been staying at after sweeping over most of the property several times. I was joined by my younger brother who showed his first interest in metal detecting, turns out he is one hell of a good luck charm. After explaining the basics of how things work we headed down a rough trail and came across a nice clean sounding tone in the high 80s. About 4 inches down out pops a large copper, my heart is pounding. Cleans up and turns out to be an 1818 large cent! My first large cent and oldest founf coin to date. I'm explaining to my brother how awesome this find is trying not to sound too overly excited when the coil picks up on a high scratchy signal that was rather jumpy. I call a bottle cap and dig in. We pull the plug out and I spy the top of what I thought then was a belt buckle. I pull it out and realise it is an old rotted coin purse and there are multiple slvers inside! Total finds found within the purse were a 1907 D barber half, 1912 S & 1907 0 barber dimes, and 1908, 1903, 1889, 1903 indian head cents! Two of the cents had fallen out the bottom and are in much rougher shape than what was in the pouch, which those in it in great shape! I don't ever expect to top this dig but day 4 is going to be spent on the island, hope I can fall asleep tonight!
