I want to buy a dash cam. Does anyone have one? There are so many brands, I have no idea which model or what features I really need. I’ve been watching YouTube videos featuring dash cam footage. Both police and civilian cams. The thing I realized is when there is an accident, everyone turns into a liar!😝 The dash cam always tells the truth. Tell me about your experiences.

I tried, then returned about 6 of them, until I found this one. Granted it has a very small screen, but it does not block your view, and you can download any video to your phone, I have purchased 2 of them.

3 years ago I had this crazy that repeatedly walked out in front of my truck when I drove past her house.

I was aware that I was going to be probably at fault.
I kept my speed under 14 mph.

I had this dash cam installed.

The very next day she did it again.
I figured it was time to get the police involved.
I drove to the station and there was a cop in his car talking to a person.
He was talking to her.🤣
I waited for the conversation to end.
He gets out and asks me how he can be if service.
I briefly explained what was happening.

He stated this:
"I just got off the phone with my client"

So now I'm the bad guy.
I explained more and it was evident that he was not accepting my explanation.

I was recording her, I was speeding, harassment, bla, bla, bla.
I lifted my phone up and said:
Yes I was recording her jumping out in front of the truck.
He stated:
"Using your phone while driving is against the law"

My reply:
Well write me up then, because I was protecting myself.

He then bent down saw the dash cam.

"How long have you had that?"

It was installed Monday and you can have the chip of her doing what I claim she's done.

His reply:
I'll go and have a talk with her.

So to make a long story short.
They will provide proof if there is doubt.

I don't know how it works in the States, or exactly which models you have available, but here in the UK a number of insurers will give you a discount on your premium if you tell them you have a dashcam. It can be as much as 20%

However, you may be required to repay any discounts you have been given if the dashcam is not plugged in or switched on at the time you have an accident, which means a hard-wired version may be preferable. But, if you go for a hard-wired version rather than a USB plug-in, you MUST tell your insurer even if no discount is available. Hard-wired models are regarded as 'vehicle modifications' and can invalidate any claim you make if not declared at the time you obtain your insurance.

There are a number of instances over here of pedestrians and cyclists deliberately throwing themselves onto the bonnet (hood) of slow-moving or stationary cars and attempting to make fraudulent claims for injury, saying that you mowed them down. Some gangs operate the same fraud using clapped out vehicles too. They cut in front of you at junctions and then brake sharply, so that you run into the back of them.

A dashcam protects you from these shysters.

For me this VIOFO A129 duo does every thing I could ask for. Video is clear and sharp with great audio, and easy to set up. When installing just make sure that when the pad is put on the windshield it is exactly where you want it as once it's on it is very difficult to take off.... Picture attached of the VIOFO

I would of thought by now everything was covered by the 7,371,903 CCTV cameras in your country.😁

I have a Toyota, it was made for a factory dashcam, but also has a port for an aftermarket one on the rear view mirror, always connected when the ignition is on.

I have a Navman HD one. You need to use class 10 cards in them or they don't work properly. Mine is several yrs old and still going good.
Iv had several instances that it caused an "ooh oooh" moment for aggressive drivers and they backed right off after I pointed to it. But iv had as many times they couldn't have cared less and continued they're harassment. One truck driver in a double b terrorised us for 10 km with nowhere for us to pull over, he was aware I had it and he'd fly up behind so close all I could see was his grill in the rear window, he'd back off then repeat it. Finally we took a dangerous run off of the road onto a small side dirt one at high speed.
I even have a sticker on my rear window saying "Warning Dash Cam Recording" it may as well not be there, I still get tailgated within a foot or two.
I conclude they are good for proof if anything happens but here where I am they are not as an effective deterrent for aggressive drivers as id hoped it would be.

We use Rexing cams in both cars for the last seven-years.

I second the VIOFO A129. I have front and rear camera with amazing picture.
