Hey everyone,

This has been a really nice past 4 weeks hunting. Weather was great in Febuary here in Pa. Never hunted really in Feb until this yr.

I have to say my forum time has been limited. I check the site daily but just to read and answer pms and help people. I like to look at all the finds anymore.

I've been spending loads of time reading maps matching homesteads up and now with gps at hand making the finds come to life. I was able to locate 2 nice sites from a old map from 1876.

Gps put us spot on. There is going to be alot of great finds this yr now with the technology and the 7 yrs or so I've been studying maps. It is starting to pay and make sence.

This would take alot of time to really write up the bumps bruises miles walked and iron dug to tell the whole story. What I will say is that it's been a reward to have found and located these old settlers cabins.

They dated I'd say right around 1850 or so. Right after the federal period I would say. I actually was standing right ontop of one of the cabin sites almost walked away and said wait a minute lets just turn the units on and check.

Immediately everyone's units were hitting iron. Within minutes I had a 1830's buckle. We scoured the site and came up with some nice finds. Including at the site 6 indian heads. Witch the dates were good one's.

My brother got a super nice 1866 and a 1803 drapped bust large cent. I got 2 1868's a 1864 no L 1879 1881. Nice yrs to find. I also found a copper to need id for it. Looks to be about 29 mm and has a bust on the front. Looks like a liberty cap, drapped bust or jefferson head.

Not sure hope you copper experts out there Don in SJ can tell. Yesterday I went back to the sight with my not even 2 yr old son to see what else I could find. I hit a beautiful 1852 silver 3 cent piece.

I said about a month ago this would be the yr for pre 1850 silver. I am very close to closing in on that. I wanna hunt now for more coppers and early silvers. I got more than enough turn of the century and on items.

I got alot more sights lined up here. Between work, wife and kids I will be out hard over the next 90 days trying to make some more great finds. Then I will slow down in the hot humid summer months.

Also I found an item that looks like a pen. It comes apart and has wood inside of it. It's about 8 inches long about a inch thick and has a nice design on it. Looks early also 1850's I'd say. Do you guys know what it is.

Also found at the first site was a 1848 large cent to. Forgot to add that. A total of 3 coppers found last month. I found 2 my brother found one.

Once again thanks for viewing and comenting.

Wow,

Thanks alot guys. You guys did alot of nice work to ID that stick.

BB, you know your stuff man. That was a great ID off the top of your head.

I knew as soon as i dug it was a special piece. Funny thing about it is Mine comes aprt and is about 8 or 9 inches long. Has a slightly diff design to it.

The wood rod is still on the inside and in good shape. Once again thanks everyone for putting in that work and finding out what I had. I live for these types of items.

Rtde, I am really surprized they let that one slipp away. Perfect shape and it is so long. Found it on the surface under some leaves just waiting to be picked up. It is heavy and screamed on the unit. Probably brass or copper.

Very Nice Jeremy.

February was not good here. Usually you guys have similar weather but I guess we missed the boat on this one! The weather has just in the last two weeks started to cooperate.

Love the 3 cent piece and the 1868 IH. Great shape for a semi-key date IH. :icon_sunny:

It's near impossible to post after that one

Nice collection Jer.

Thanks for sharing

Thanks alot guys.

Mirage weather was great this yr. I only took about 3 to 4 weeks off the whole yr. I'm not gonna lie though I was out on some cold a** days. But the good weather is here now and I am ready to go.

I'm gonna be digging into the older history around here now. I'll save my parks and silver hunting for the summer months. Yes I was fortunate enough to have found the coins to be in great shape espcially the key dates and 3 center.

No, The maps I used are just black and white maps of allegeheny co pa 1876. I purchase them online from diff places. You can google any co and find maps easily.

I'll be back here soon with some more coppers for the showings. Once again thanks for all the help and replies on this thread.

Thanks alot guys.

My wife would probably like that Dugholes lol. Just can't do it though. TH is something I just can't seem to stop doing. Gonna do it till the day I die.

I'll be back here soon with another post. Just trying out some new sites here and there over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks again everyone

Really love the door lock plate, one of the largest I've seen.

Yes Carl,

It was a nice find. Very large and heavy. Has a co name on the back with a bunch of numbers. Would like to know more about it. Made by the seargent co. Looks to be victorian. Was found on the surface just under some leaves. Makes you wonder how it got lost.
