What do you know of this token?

Front: Non Silba Sed Anthar (Not for ones self, but for others)

The KKK stood for terror, hate and murder. It's not hatred of the token. It's hatred of the small-minded hate that follows with the group the token represents. I feel items like it should be destroyed, not forgotten. Destroyed because there are many who would venerate it's past and the hate it represents. We should never forget what atrocities Hitler created, but neither should be allow people to worship mementos of that hate.

Then we should destroy the slave tags that a few of our TN members found. Any American flags from the period when the US allowed slavery and participated in the slave trade. Any Nazi-era coins or artifacts that our European members find. Any artifacts and relics attributable to the secessionist states and the CSA.

Where does it stop?

When do we simply accept history for what it was and move on without experiencing an overwhelming desire to eliminate any and all relics from the dark periods in the past? Eliminating those relics won't change what has happened, and the existence of such relics does not in and of themselves equate with support, or promotion, or approval of the sentiments expressed by those who originally constructed the relics.

Wow! What an interesting post and discussion. This is what America is all about. Freedom of speach and the right to your own opinion/beliefs. In my opinion it is a very cool find with important historical significance. Thanks tnet for shedding light even in the darkest of areas.

Since many here take opposition to my opinion, let me explain further. Everyone here is using slavery and WW2 Nazi Germany as their counter examples. There is a major difference between those 2 things and the KKK. The KKK is still here. Slavery was abolished long ago. We no longer have other humans as our forced workers. Nazism is abolished. Is was outlawed after the end of WW2. There are no more Nazis. We DO have current KKK members, and many of those are filled with the same vile hate as when this token was created.

So, A slavetag is a relic of bygone times. A Nazi reichsmark coin, or piece of soldiers equipment is likewise a piece of old history. A KKK item is still honored and cherished by current KKK members, not as a part of heritage, but for the hate it represented then and today. Many of those same current KKK members are self-ascribed "neo-nazis" and proponents of slavery. So this very article we are discussing here is just a much a piece of MODERN hate as it was when it was produced, it is not a relic of a dark past.

Ok...so are you not aware of the black panthers? Should we outlaw possession of anything pertaining to them? Should they drop something, and 10 years later it's dug up would you support the government taking that item by force? I hope not. We do have slavery today. In fact there are many people in slavery right now, not just in other parts of the world but right here. Have you seen how out of control the sex slave trade has become?

No more Nazi's? There are plenty of Nazi/neo-Nazi groups and individuals around, still honoring the hatred, propaganda, and the related symbols used in their past.

And you're wrong about the relic in question as well. That some individuals even now subscribe to the same sentiments as those who created it nearly a century ago doesn't alter it's status as a historical item. Same can be said of Confederate and slave-era relics, as there are many individuals whose personal philosophy and beliefs harbor racism against those who aren't WASPs. By your argument, those relics should be destroyed due to existing, ongoing racism and hatred by many who cherish those symbols and what some feel they represent.

Destroying symbols does not destroy hate. Destroying artifacts and relics does not destroy what some individuals feel and believe.

Jason, just because something makes YOU feel uncomfortable doesn't mean you or anyone else has the power to destroy it...

Who said anything about govt force? Sheesh, talk about taking something to the extreme! I give a personal opinion but you equate that to passing laws and gov't crackdowns?

Folks,

Quite the discussion this token has stirred up....and heh it is a historical artifact pure and simple....it does represent a darker period of history but so do many other items we all find from time to time.

I had bought some 5 mark German coins made of silver as slighter below melt....they had the nazi emblem on them I probably sold them for about 3 times what I paid for them to a precious metal dealer based on scrap value the gent was Jewish but odds are he flipped them for a profit to a coin dealer I just didn't want them in my collection but that's just me.

As most people know the history of the world is filled with stories of mistreatment of others and that ain't going to change no matter what any of us do it's just part of life.

Regards + HH

You posted that we should not allow people to worship mementos of hate... The only way to not allow this " worshipping mementos of hate" would be government intervention.

No. I gave my opinion on this. People disagreed and made countered points. I gave an explanation of why I have the opinion I do. Please stop acting as if I am trying to take your civil rights away. I gave an opinion, you gave yours. Thats a discussion and thats all we are having.

If Jason in Enid finds one or better yet buys one to destroy, I'm cool with that. Personally if it was mine I would give it to a collector.

Ok, so how else are we to take your statement? Of not "allowing" us these artifacts?
Here's an opinion of mine...it's time we as in a nation turn our sensitivity down about six notches...

When did I say nobody should be "allowed"? You are correct about the sensitivity level, you are being WAY too sensitive about a personally expressed opinion. We are allowed to disagree with each other, thats perfectly OK.

Ah, so I did use the word "allow". But I promise you that I was meaning it in a "socially acceptable" meaning, not in "the govt should arrest and imprison you" way.

Ok, let's agree to let it be at that. [emoji482]

Besides, the KKK now is more of a joke than anything else nowadays. Their members, when shown on TV as of late, are usually a dozen or so illiterate, trailer trash looking inbreds that can barely form a complete sentence. They hold about as much power as the token in this thread, zilch. The new Black Panther party in my opinion are the same, be it at opposite sides of the racial spectrum.
