I invited RWSNC (Bob) to MD with me today. We hit an 1830's house in town that turned out to be a waste of an hour. It had been detected before we were told, and all we found was some clad. :'(
We then moved on to the plantation house I've been working. Bob went one way, and I finished my 2nd gridding of the front yard. I found a gold plated ring, coin purse latch, and a wheat.
I then started gridding off the side yard. I hit a musket ball right by the side of the house, a few more wheats, and a beautiful
Catholic pendant with "1830" on it right at the base of an oak tree. (Sorry Mirage, you missed it Buddy ;) ).

RWSNC was hoping for some silver coins today, (me too) but it was not to be. He did score a nice large thin button though that I think may be Colonial. It has a neat primitive stamped design on the front. "Congrats Bob".

I'm sure there will be more old coins to be found, but I'll have to work for them now since I'm almost done with the yard. Next stop, the other two pasture areas.

Today's finds.

*Beautiful Italian Catholic pendant with an "1830" date on it.
Can anyone translate the meaning of these words?
Do you think this is actually from 1830, or is there a reason that date is on this religious pendant?

*Gold plated ring. Ladies or kids?

*Wheats - 1912 , 18 , 56D

*Musket ball

*Old fork - Age?
All I can make out on the back is "Schaeffe". Any ideas on this one?

*1997 vaccine tag.

*Long lead piece that is folded in half and each side has a hole that lines up. No idea on this mystery item?

*Coin purse latch

*Two pieces of "what's it"? When I dug them up, the black piece (brass) was fitted on top of the brown (copper) piece.
Any guesses on this one? (besides "junk" that is ;) )

Thanks for looking,
MM

Doug, you better stop hunting that place. Every find makes me look bad! ;) :D ;D Yep, another one Mirage missed. ::) :D

That religious pendant is cool. 1830 - is that the date it was made? If so that's got to be the oldest religious pendants I have seen.

Here is what we had to deal with this weekend:

:P :P :P

Man am I glad I had to chance to go down south and hunt. That hunt is still holding me over.... :)

EV,
This pendant sure was a fooler. I thought I had found 1830's silver. ;D You have quite a collection of them going. Congrats.

STYRKER-
No they are metal. PBK just ID'd them for me above.

DAN,
You probably have quite a few with the amount of goodies you find in those Calif parks. ;)

KIRK,
Thanks Dude. Is Bone Dry fired up and ready to hit the coppa fields? Looking forward to your guys finds this year. Hope to see a great year of some banner finds. Remember this picture? ;D

We broke up the Bone Dry Detecting club last month. There were too many differences in opinions on what kind of sites we should hunt.

Kirk and I are back to hunting with our uncle, Silver Zeus. I have some great spots that we are going to seek permission for in the near future. If we are granted the necessary permission for them, it will be a dandy of a year.

Kyle,
Sorry to hear that. I know what you mean though, everyone has different desires in this crazy hobby. It's tough to find partners with the same interests some times. The more involved, the more complicated it gets. Kind of like when my family and I go on vacation. My son and I want to fish, and my wife & daughter like to shop. For some reason they are never happy shopping in the bait & tackle stores. Go figure. ;D ;)
I really like hunting alone myself, but don't mind an occasional partner once in a while.
Good luck this year. Hope you guys find some great old coppas.

Bob,
You could NEVER look bad. I've seen part of your collection, remember? ;)
You just came down, walked into the horse pasture, swung the SE a few times, hit a dime sized 1/2 reale within a few minutes, and then left me the trinkets to pick up later. That about sums it up doesn't it? ;D
Actually, I know those short trips are tough to cover all the areas you would like too. Too bad you didn't have more time.
Thanks for the snow pictures.. Off to go mow the lawn now. ::)

Hay All,

This is Latin for "Queen conceived with original sin", and probably has "ora pro nobis" - or "O.P.N." - which is Latin for "Pray for us". Usually in English this is translated "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee"...

Thanks PTP

Doug,
Super cool medal. I would have though that it was made in 1830. Still really nice. Hope you pull something goldish next.

MM,

Great finds, as always! I think you and I have a similar conception of "a good day in the field." Come up to NY sometime and we can dig some spoons. ;D

Speaking of which, you're not kidding about that fork. Nice find! It's in great shape too. I don't know how many TNet members can really appreciate how rare a find it is! ;)

WTG, and keep up the good digs!

Cheers and HH,
Brendan
