Yesterday afternoon I was able to hit the far corner of the hay field again. This little corner has produced some very nice finds for me and they keep coming ;D
This find comes from arround 20 feet from where I found a 1798 LC and several Tombac buttons this spring. Last weekend I found 2 Pewter USA buttons about 50 feet from here!!
This is my first colonial copper, EVER!! This coin was a very light whisper and a VERY SMALL target on top of the ground. Repeating 38/40 on me Minelab 705. I dug a larger than normal plug, pulled out some dirt and the signal was gone :icon_scratch: As I was SURE that it was no halo/ rusy iron signal I dug deeper. BAM !!! There it was on top of the dirt pile from way down deep.

The rest is history. I did the happy dance and put the coil back to the ground. The other keeper from that spot was a very old musket ball.

Too and from the spot I picked up two Wheats and A token that I am not sure what It is.

I am doing two posts here because I have a few pics to show. I have comparison pics from this spring and yesterday.

Awesome copper. Thats a great spot you have located. Congrats on the great finds and best of luck continuing there.

Awesome, good job on your first colonial. Keep diggin em.

Great find! I've always liked the look of the Mass. coppers. They punched the hole right through the guy's head. :D

You are on to a great hunting spot without a doubt :o Keep pounding it before it gets too cold. You have found some nice keeprs as well as a Banner find too. There must be more

Here are two more pics comparing the 1798 LC from this spring and the 1787 Mass from testerday.

Outstanding !!!!

The Mass cent (& half cent) is my favorite Colonial copper to find (not that I find many).

I would be setting up a tent in that field. Talk about a field of dreams !!!

Congrats... Can't wait to see what you post up next !!!

That copper is really nice, congrats. What's on the other side of the token? I would have been thrilled with the token, let alone the Massachusetts copper. :icon_thumright:

thats great im dying to find one. my buddy coterie - mc found one this year. look his post up. willy

That copper looks pretty nice. Congrats on such a great find.

Very nice looking Mass cent, VP. You don't see those kind of coppers being posted often.

I hope to find something that special tomorrow. We just got permission for two Colonial sites today, so the sky is the limit.

Today it has rained ALL DAY. Tomorrow if the rain lets up I will be heading back over to "The spot"
It is about a 200 yard walk from my front door. I have been considering asking the land owner if I can mow that area of the field with my riding mower ;D

Thanks for the replies and I will throw in two more pics of the aluminum token. Any ideas on how to clean it a little better.

Nice. Not to many of those Mass. coppers being dug.

Very nice, Vermontpackrat. How long did it take you to detect around the field to find that good area? Did you go systematic or just sort of walk around swingin'?
