Yesterday afternoon I was able to hit the far corner of the hay field again. This little corner has produced some very nice finds for me and they keep coming ;D
This find comes from arround 20 feet from where I found a 1798 LC and several Tombac buttons this spring. Last weekend I found 2 Pewter USA buttons about 50 feet from here!!
This is my first colonial copper, EVER!! This coin was a very light whisper and a VERY SMALL target on top of the ground. Repeating 38/40 on me Minelab 705. I dug a larger than normal plug, pulled out some dirt and the signal was gone :icon_scratch: As I was SURE that it was no halo/ rusy iron signal I dug deeper. BAM !!! There it was on top of the dirt pile from way down deep.

The rest is history. I did the happy dance and put the coil back to the ground. The other keeper from that spot was a very old musket ball.

Too and from the spot I picked up two Wheats and A token that I am not sure what It is.

I am doing two posts here because I have a few pics to show. I have comparison pics from this spring and yesterday.

Very nice, Vermontpackrat. How long did it take you to detect around the field to find that good area? Did you go systematic or just sort of walk around swingin'?

I started out arround the house. TOOOO much junk. I think that there has been alot of work done and alot of dirt moved arround. I moved on to some apple trees in the bottom edge of the field, right behind the house. Here I found my first Walking Liberty Half, silver quarter, Wheats, etc. I started fanning out from there and have identified three hot spots in the field.

Now you got me started.......

From what I understand..... The house that is there now (built 1800 +/-) is not the original house. I was told that the original house was not in the exact location of the presant house. Have I found where the other house was? I need to dig some iron for some clues.

You pretty much can name it and I have found it in this field. I think that this land was cleared over 200 years ago and has been worked every day since then. I still have not found any old silver in the field. Maybe the next hunt.
I have done more research about past owners of the farm. Very interesting and tells me why I am finding the "good stuff"

Excellent finds, I am glad that you added the extra info and pics. I was thinking with the various finds that you were working more than one homesite. The U.S.A buttons are Once in a Lifetime finds and now a 1787 Mass Copper in very nice condition , I can't wait to see what is next.

Thats a beauty copper, and it sure did clean up nice!. Your hunting spot is fantastic, great scenery and great hunting. I'd walk that entire area carefully and use a grid pattern system. Their is no telling what else you'll find, all the signs are there for colonial silver.

A great place to have there! And finds to go along with it! :icon_thumright:

Really nice Mass. Copper Bud! Congrats on your find. You've been havin' quite a year. :headbang: :notworthy:

When it comes to post colonials we find mostly Conn coppers here in Pa. It's nice to see a Mass come out of the ground anywhere. Thanks for sharing.

That Mass cent is what I am seeking! I have dug Connecticuts and New Jerseys, but never one of those. Congrats on a site so close to home and so productive.
