My dad was at the tail end of a 4 day visit to the island and anyone that been here knows the game you have to play with the ferry !!! While on my phone every ten minutes,,, I figured I would do a little detecting on an old colonial cart path that passes thru a field. I was using my Tesoro and often don't dig targets in the 40-59 range . This was a very clean crisp target only 5 inches down. I really thought it was a shiny Lincoln penny until I picked it up. Hope folks enjoy the pics !!!

I've just added a couple more pics , gently cleaned, also showing the edge.

Hi again,, I just added more pics of gold coin beside two silvers I pulled in Vermont and a dime and quarter for size reference. Also , I pulled this button with in ten feet of the coin. It took a (older ) hit on the front ??? not sure what it is ,, looks like a log cabin. Any help ??, love to hear it , thanks

Hey Casper,, likewise on the VDI readings, water vs land,,, I do however recall readings in the pull tab range where there really shouldn't be pull tabs,,, I may be going back to those remote fields to dig anything in that range

Congratulations on the banner find!

Finally BANNER I was beginning to think the "system" was broken. Crusader must be right Sometimes it just takes awhile I guess .
Well deserved
Goldbill

Superb save of history sir, superb!

Well deserved banner. A definite heartstopper of a find. I spent three sweat-soaked, mosquito-plagued hours yesterday digging shell casings and fired 45 caliber rounds which sound real sweet when the coil goes over them. After every piece of junk I kept picturing your coin to keep me going!

Outstanding recovery and sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetgold

Great stuff! WOW!
Banner finds, for sure!! :icon_thumright:
Tesoro strikes again!
Find some more, and share with us!

Hi George; BANNER. The button design appears to be the image of the Mass Pine Tree just like on the Pine Tree Shilling. If so then you have a VERY RARE button there easily in the thousand dollar plus bracket and even a more BANNER find than the coin. Get it checked out ASAP. Then DO NOT CLEAN IT. !!!! You will kill the value ok. We await the button results. Congrats. PEACE:RONB

Congrats on your gold coin Banner and now a possible very rare pine tree button going banner!
A double!

I'm not exactly sure how double Banner vote works on a single post, cause I don't have a banner box left to vote in, again.
You may have to make a separate post with a pic of the button once you get the final word on it from those in the know. Your on a real high roll here!

No telling how many people have walked right over that...good job by you!!!! Congrats on your Banner find!

Hi; Well Folks; The Button has been ID'd. It's a William Henry Harrison Campaign Button from the 1840's. Still a sweet find. CONGRATS all the way around guy. BANNER on the coin but not the button. PEACE:RONB :leprechaun-hat:

Finding a colonial gold coin is something most of us can only dream about!
Congratulations on making the BANNER! :occasion14:

Thank you to all that viewed my posting. The "banner" on the coin is great and I learned quite a bit more about colonial gold from some of the postings. This will be a hard find for me to top ?? As the Vineyard crowds dwindle this fall it will be easier to walk the open spaces and I hope to pull more early findings ?

This just takes my breath away. Excellent find of a lifetime. WTG....
