Fair warning to everybody.... This will be a long post. If you want to skip to the pics I don't blame you. This hunt was a very special one to me and involves a site that has a connection to one of my ancestors. I almost hate to admit how many hours I spend doing research. It's a stupid amount and a huge time commitment. I spent 4 months working 7 days a week in Stowe Vt last fall. I had no time to hunt for months. But I spent my nights trying to stay awake and do some research. From this research I have lined up quite a few sites. This particular site was a log cabin that belonged to the business partner of one of my ancestors that landed here in the 1700s. David and Thomas owned a mill together. Thomas's log cabin was close to the mill and had an "office" of sorts where the two would conduct business. This bit of info was found in some of my moms extensive geneology collection. I recently found a map from 1751 that showed the mill and Thomas's home close by. David(my ancestor) lived close by on the top of a nearby hill. These maps are very rough and just show crudely drawn houses in the vicinity of where the actually were.
Fast forward to last night. I got home from a long week of working in NH. My T2 SE had returned from its upgrade and I was shocked to see that First Texas had basically replaced everything. That machine was destroyed when I sent it out. It's been dripped a million times, stepped on a bunch, and taken two brief falls into the ocean....with me attached. I'm pretty sure the machine has not been right for a very long time. So this morning I picked a site and headed out. The machine ran great and I found an early copper. Great day already. After a few hours I decided to go somewhere else. I knew I wasn't far from the mill site. I figured what the hell, I'll see if I can locate an iron patch. Maybe I will get lucky. I parked my truck and headed out through the forest. These log cabins had no cellar holes so there is zero visible sign of a home. You just have to get lucky and hit the iron patch. Just a few minutes in I hit some iron. Got a high tone and pulled a copper....then another and another. Then a beautiful pewter shoe buckle (the pictures do it no justice), then several more coppers. I was so excited that I had found the home site of David's partner. I'm guessing this was the office area with all the coins. I kept hoping a Spanish silver would pop out. Sure enough a nailed a gorgeous 1749 Real with incredible detail and a great even dark toning. I also dug a really thick rat tail spoon in great shape. It's amazing to think one of my ancestors may have touched something that i dug today. I have barely scratched the surface here and can't wait to get back. When I finish this site I will attempt to find the site of my ancestor David. He too had a log cabin that will have no visible sign.
This has been a damn tough week with the Tnet happenings. But I have a great life with a ton of great people in it. Lots of them on this site. This day was exactly what I needed. Best of luck to all

Holy crap Abe! That reale is crisp! Excellent looking coppers as well. I wish they came out of my soil like that. It just blows my mind how old the sites are that you get to hunt. You don't see many intact pewter spoons come out very often. Stellar hunt!!

Thanks bud. I'm lucky to have a ton of sites with sandy soil. I've found some nice coppers but this real is pretty amazing

Boy o boy Abe, those coppers are in incredible condition as is the pistareen. It's hard for me to pick my fav since I love it all but I'm gonna go with the whole rattail since I have never found one. That's a virgin site fo sho and your research was spot on. Get back there asap and good luck finding your ancestors site. Cheers!!

Yup had to clean the house all day and shop for area rugs and interior doors....all while I'm wishing I was back at this site digging keepers. This Pistareen is incredible and a new style for me. Thinking a spoon display may be in order soon. You'll get yours. I wouldn't mind digging some more cobs bro. You seem to find those just fine lol

That real is in amazing condition and I love the toning....

I too love that dark toning that comes from a couple hundred years in the dirt. I thought about lightening it up a bit but decided to leave it dark

Dang Abe. You're going IP style with those coppers! Double-digit coppers in one day is just mind-blowing!!! What a heart-stopping reale, lots of details still left! Lots of the coins are from 1749 too which is pretty cool! I think 1749 was a big year for the KGII coins. Love the Hibernia, it's in such great condition! The real show stopper in my opinion is the awesome complete rat-tail spoon. Awesome shoe buckle too. That is a hunt you will remember for ever, your research certainly paid off Abe, can't wait to see your future posts!!!

Thank you Isaac. My record before was 6 coppers so 10 was pretty amazing. As for the 49 kgs I recently learned that a massive amount of 1749 and 50 halfpennys were shipped to Boston at one point. So New England is loaded with them. To add a couple of killer relics was just amazing. I'm excited to get back. When you research as much as I do it feels very gratifying to land on a target rich are ma like this

Out Friggin standing...

BANNER(S).

This hunt pics just blew my socks off...

Oh I was already wearing sandals. :P

Thank you my friend. Certainly the most keepers I've ever dug. To get a few coppers with great detail is not easy. It's fun to add those to the collection

Hell of a palate cleanser!! THAT'S how it is done: research, effort, intuition, amazing finds and restoration...just what the doctor ordered to bring this site some much needed honest inspiration.

There does seem to be a couple of spots vacated on the ole' banner as of late. Hmmmmmm. Rather wonderful karmic turnaround, I should think. But this hunt stands on its own merits, which is why i'm voting it up.

Ken Ken Ken,
It's been a trying week for us my friend. Through these tough times relationships and bonds are strengthened. We confide in others and get support. I appreciate your support pal. This hunt was therapy at its best

Do you just want to call the dollar bet even right now? ;)

You do a couple hunts early in the year and hit buttons, and now the coins! Someone is on a mission I'm thinking. :headbang: I have several good finds from an area where my ancestors settled so I get what you're talking about.

Yeah digging this site is really special man. I am on a mission and I'm almost positive my machine has been in rough shape for s long time. Now it's tuned up and it's ready to win me a buck lol. I feel like last season was cut very short and it was tough watching everybody digging while I was working 70 hours a week for 4 months. This season IT IS ON 8

IT DON'T GET NO BETTER THAN THAT! WHAT A CONNECTION YOU HAVE WITH THE BEAUTIFUL FINDS YOU MADE!!! HOPE YOU CAN FIND MORE!!!

Thank you Scruggs! These finds are very special to me

Special hunt indeed! Congrats on your research paying off with one heck of a hunt and I am sure more goodies to be found next time. Sending a PM to you.

Don

Don I appreciate the pm and I think it's awesome that you and others care about this important history

Abe as I said in my text, I sensed you scored big! But then again, every time you go out you score big. This being no exception, I'm happy you got out there and Dug things Out of the Ground.

It's not because we're pals, it's because you dug an array of spectacular colonial finds. I'm voting banner!

Thank you so much buddy! Glad I can share with you and others. Always happy to see your finds man

Dang Abe - with your refurbished detector in hand you came back with a major vengeance. Awesome hunt dude, and I can't ever remember seeing that many colonial coins being dug in a single hunt. Some of those coppers came out in amazing shape, and I guess the woods will do that for you. But you have to give me an assist on the silver as I called that one early on :laughing7:. I'm also impressed with that complete dognose pewter spoon with the rat-tail, and those generally date to the early 1700s. I found one nearly exactly like yours several years ago and was able to bend it back straight without any issues. But please be careful if you attempt to do that. And I see where you also got a huge Georgian shoe buckle to add to your collection as well. Based on your finds, it looks like your site saw activity throughout the entire 18th century. Glad to see your hard research efforts paid off again. And with that many nice targets on just the first hunt I know many more are awaiting your discovery, plus you have that 2nd site that's waiting for you. Hope you can get back out there soon.

Bill I'm sending you half of the Pistareen. If not for your intuition I never would have found it. Psyched to have a Woods Hibernia in the collection and I am dying to get back

Good to see you back in town posting. You find some killer early stuff man, Beautiful coins and sweet buckle. What is it with you and thows nice Early colonial spoons :laughing7: Congrats Ahab!

Spoons love me bro lol. Wish gold coins and super models did as well 8-)

Congrats on an epic hunt. You have a very special site not only because of its connection with your ancestors but it is obviously a virgin site. Your research was handsomely rewarded. Enjoy this site while it last - I can't wait to see what else you recover there. This is a banner day in my book and off to vote!

Thanks Screwy. I knew you'd appreciate these early finds. Some of us are born to find the colonial stuff

Nice early site! A great big bonus you have with a family connection. The condition you have is amazing on some of the finds too; the coastal disease hasn't affected the area badly yet!
Continued success to you!

I never understand how coast disease works. Some of my best early coppers have come from the edge of salt water. This place is no different but it is sandy soil which helps. Half are slicks and half are nice. Don't know bud. Glad the silver is nice

Abe - Congrats on pulling up some big finds. I seldom see an intact pewter spoon posted, a dog-nose handle end variety no less! Multiple coopers and Spanish silver in terrific shape - you had one quality hunt. It's great to find a site that's steadily producing finds on a hunt - those types of experiences are seldom found at least for me. All those finds are just rewards for you extensive research. :headbang:

Thanks buddy. These sites very rarely are discovered. I will cherish every second

That's a great story Abe. My mother also does genealogy. She's given me a lot of good tips on places to go. Connecting to the past is one thing, but connecting to your relatives past has got to be surreal! I'm trying to get in the 1700 club! You make it look to easy! If I found coins like that, I don't think I'd sleep for a week! How do those New Hampshire guys say it. That's sick!!!! I hope you find the other cabin site. Congrats!!!!

It was amazing to find coins and relics that may have been touched by my ancestor. Very special to me
