so are we thinking i got ripped off or ,if it,s fake is it worth just as much? what should my next move be? thanks again
No, not at all Messick. There are many variations and I dont know much about gold escudos. You may have a coin worth $1000 or more. I just would like answers to these questions.

If Sedwick knows the #1- Diameter and #2- Weight, and still thinks it is authentic, I will be satisfied. Also ask him if its a 1 or 2 Escudo.

It may also be an error coin that may increase the value...or it may be a contemperary counterfeit. :dontknow:

Everything considered, I might have bought it.

Also I think if you find out the answers to why this coin is so thin, you can explain to the buyers on eBay and get what its worth. I just dont understand "clipped" and I dont think anyone else will either if you try to sell it.. Also post very clear pics of front, back and side with all the history that you can find out to go with it.

You can ask Sedwick if he wants to buy it.

Something I noticed. The doohickey (circled) that represents a colony, I think, on the bottom of the shield is facing a different direction as compared to Sedwicks.

Being a Sevilla coin, it would not be a colony. I will have to look this up.

The writing on the rim doesnt line up. The "o"(arrow) is not directly below the centerline. (dotted line)

The spacing on no two dies, even for those carrying the same legend or kings name, are ever exactly the same. Remember that the letters were punched individually into the die sets. As long as the necessary information was fit in and the end result looked reasonably good the spacing was not important. Also, the radial position of the beginning and ending can vary somewhat.

The lions tail appears a little different. The bottom feet of the A's are facing different.
I dont know if this means anything. :dontknow: Im only asking if anyone knows what this means.

This is common too. Somewhere I have a book that shows about half a dozen different lion designs. There were probably many more subtle variations.

They are out in at the LA World's Fair of Money, one of the biggest coin shows of the year. I imagine they have a booth.
