This was our second trip to this location and we sure got on top of the relics. Once we started digging horseshoe after horseshoe, it wasn't long until we honed in on the good stuff. Hope you enjoy the video. It won't disappoint. And as promised in my last post, I'll attach images for those who...
I want to start by saying this video is only 28 seconds long, so I won't be attaching pictures to this post but I will post pictures of when I get the videos finished. This is just a teaser trailer. Anyways, I finally got around to hitting a spot I researched 3 years ago. Since it's somewhat of...
I've been wanting to get in this particular river since I first started metal detecting but the drive is rather long. I was finally able to find the time and we ended up having a great day on the water. I was proud of my little 4hp motor too. It got us back up river (2 miles) to the boat ramp...
in my research found a nice little creek that goes right though a major civil war battle area in an urban area. It is about 200 yards wide and 1,000 yards long between two old residential streets. From street level it is about fifty feet below to the bottom of a small creek with steep eroded...
I have my Equinox 800 so one assigned tone break is 16-19 for civil war bullets.
but a large old style pull tab rings up a solid 16.
so is there any other way to overcome this problem or do I just have to dig all 16 TID's.
john
How long did it take you in an estimate of hours did it take you to find your first civil war bullet?
Or any other civil war relic?
I am using an Nox 800 and have adjusted my tone breaks to make bullets ring out loud and clear.
How much research do you do of areas near civil war battle...
I found this ~4.5 inch ~12 lb spherical chunk of iron in my dads woods near Athens GA. The property was a mule farm on the seaboard rail line around the time of the civil war and there were no battles / fighting in the area that I know of. It has an odd spherical hole that I drilled about 1/8"...
Hello just found these out in the yard. The little small piece next to my finger is heavy like lead. One of the pieces looks like it possibly could be a piece of a sword? And a piece of a pan?
Yesterday I got to make a last ditch effort to hunt the place where I found the 2 pieces of 12 pound case shot last fall. The earth movers are on site scraping up all of the top soil to build a new apartment complex (very saddening). Anyway the construction crew couldn't give me written...
I dug this up yesterday found at about 12 inches below the surface. I’m thinking I have a Civil War campground in my front yard. Looks to me like this is a man-made brick or block… But the reason I found it is I noticed there’s a little bullet in the corner
Battlefield Archeology - Pea Ridge, AR
Ok guys, sorry I've been so slow in getting to posting this.
As I told you guys a couple of months ago I was contacted by the National Parks Service and asked to help them and the Arkansas Archeological Survey recover some artifacts on the Pea Ridge...
Hi. I found this piece on the grounds of an old plantation around New Orleans. Definitely is made to hold, but I can’t figure out what it is supposed to be. I don’t even know if the curved piece is supposed to be bent the way it is. Any help in identifying would be appreciated!
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what this badge possibly stands for, or what it may have been used for. It was found with a pair of civil war epaulettes, but I have not been able to figure out its use. Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated, the best guess I have so far is...
This was an incredible hunt with some incredible people. Met up with my buddy Chris (aka birddogg on Youtube) and my buddy Exploring Alabama. Chris had a spot he wanted to comb through with a group so he invited us to come dig. There weren't a great number of relics found but the relics that...
This article from the St. John's Herald newspaper of June 25, 1891 tells of the recovery of a large bank cache that had been buried in advance of Sherman's March to the Sea. This week, I've read numerous old newspaper articles which tell of thousands of families and businesses that buried their...
I read about this little-known battle in a book I'm currently reading titled With the Border Ruffians by R.H. Williams who began his service to the Confederacy as a member of the Knights of the Golden Circle. I first read about Williams in Donald S. Frazier's excellent book Blood & Treasure...
??? HELP ID THIS RELIC FIND ???
Was out today relic hunting a farm field in Virginia. Colonial, revolutionary war, and civil war artifacts/relics are possible in this area.
You know the story, I was about to pack it in and reluctantly come home empty (save a few modern bullets and big iron)...
I am new and need help finding sites to detect (preferably civil war) but all help would be welcomed I am in the area of Halifax VA.
the best i have found so far was parts of a Gene Autry cap pistol like 60s or so maybe?
Any help would be appreciated
I haven't had much luck finding new places to hunt lately and hadn't even bothered putting much effort into hunting lately since most of my places have dried up. And to be quite honest I was a little burnt out because of it, but today my wife told me I needed to go because she could tell I was...
These are the November finds I made in a Civil War Camp I just found in Southwest, Missouri. This Camp was occupied by Colonel William Weer's 1st Division of the Army of the Frontier.
Hi All,
I know its a little out of the norm for the community but I need help in identifying/dating an artifact for the purposes of dating a burial we excavated in NC. Don't worry, not grave-robbing (nothing is being sold/everything is being repatriated). We were contacted by the descendants...
Hi all, just joined the forum and hoping to tap into some of your wealth of knowledge. So here's my story. My family has land in Ellisville, MS. (a few miles southwest of town), and although I do know a pretty good bit about the history of Ellisville, (the Knight stories, and a little bit about...
Had a great metal detecting adventure yesterday! I found civil war bullets, colonial buckles and buttons but the main find was a gold ring with an eagle on it! I have not been able to find a similar ring anywhere. I believe it is a military ring since it has the eagle with what appears to be an...
Today was the best day EVER!!! Not only did I sell my Saloon Token for over $480, I finally found my first skirmish site that still had a few goodies left. I found more Civil War bullets today than I had in my entire collection. Somebody pinch me.
Lately I've been focused much less on old coins and moreso on trying to find a few more civil war relics for my display case. In this area civil war relics can be found, however getting permission anyplace that's not burried under a foot of sedimentation and trash from floods, hasn't been...
My dad, who loves detecting, found this near Appomattox Historical Court House (few miles from civil war surrender site) today. It weighs about 3 to 4 pounds, has semi legible numbers stamped on one side. Definitely seems to be iron. It is solid all the way through down to about one inch from...
I really a lot of people asking about buttons. So with that being said I have a very good friend and brother who is a button expert second to none. I bet that he can figure out any button especially military buttons. Military buttons are his specialty and he owns his own website...
I was detecting a really old house that's situated between a couple of opposing civil war camps. I found this old Navy button in the front yard, and a buckle cover in the field across the road.
