Last night I stepped outside and turned on my metal detector for the last 30 minutes of light. I found a nice Confederate Civil War Zouave uniform coat button. One individual who grew up in the cabin I am trying to locate was said to have died on his way to battle in 1861. Most Confederate Zouave units had phased out by 1861 so the button is likely from this soldier or his family. You can read "EXTRA RICH" on the back clear as day. Found in Anderson community, Caswell County, NC.

very cool button, great save in great shape

I'm not understanding what a relatively common British made civilian Ball Button has to do with the CW?
I find lots over here, does that mean I had Confederate soldiers in my fields?

Read his post carefully,it explains how it could have gotten there.

So you could buy a ton of inexpensive buttons from the UK & sell them over there for big bucks by making up a story. (if you so wished)

C,mon man! I gave you a reference, pepper gave you a reference. If you don,t believe they,re what they,re being represented as,do some research and present your facts. This comment is snide and uncalled for.

Nope, just pointing out what does sometimes happen. (I know this to be true, not snide)
I'm not in anyway saying that the OP is in that bracket, just that the provenance is not iron clad.
We have CW era nipple buttons with the same issue. They are civilian & military at the same time, no way of proving which is which, even on a CW battle site. (but people can believe what they like) That's why I call mine CW era.

Thank-you very interesting.
Can't see the bit where its states these British Ball buttons with various back-marks were exclusively used by the Zouave.
Please give me some source material that states these soldiers were given this back-mark of Ball Button? (That would help the case)
We have to look at this objectively (& of course I know only a small pinch of your CW which I have learned on here), but unless your selling on ebay we (as a community) can't create a bigger internet myth than already exists. We need to demonstrate a higher level of evidence to state this 'is CW' used. (otherwise we feed the monster) At this point, it is in the 'could be' category.
We are after all people who enjoy History, so lets try & get it right.

He,s so veddy British you see, knows more about American Civil War history than Americans.
I don't think I made my point very well, not great with writing stuff. The impression this will give to people googling is that this back-mark of button was used by the Zouave which adds to the myth & adds value to those scamming on ebay. Make sense now?
