I want to tell my friends here in the What Is It forum that my Dad passed away at about 2:30 AM Friday Morning with me at his side. He has been unable to swallow food for 5 months and the doctors could not find the problem, until it was too late, even after subjecting him to numerous unnecessary testing. It reinforces my distrust for doctors.

My Dad was a Bronze Star recipient as a first scout with the 3rd Division at Anzio during the Italian Campaign push to Rome.. To post in this forum, my "what is it" is the small lapel pin with the eagle. No markings on the back.

Thank you.

BigCy - I found something really interesting on Ancestry - they have these records-

U.S. National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, 1866-1938 Record for Lafayette Mason

but I have to take screen shots to get them to you. I will message you.

When I found him on the 1860 Census he was with David Mason (father) who is shown as born in Maryland.
Wow thanks. Maryland is good. I found this on the George Mason link.

...at age 21 Mason took over his inheritance of approximately 20,000 acres spread across several counties in Virginia and Maryland.

Re: WWII pin SOLVED Civil War Papers Found.

George Mason didnt have a son named David. My brother said we are missing one or two generations to make the connection. I dont know how hard he tried but he was unsuccessful. http://www.gunstonhall.org/georgemason/family.html George Mason IV had a total of 59 grandchildren.

My Dad said he had papers making the connection but I havent found them yet. :dontknow:

I found some papers from Gunston Hall. He must have visited.

Re: WWII pin SOLVED Civil War Papers Found.

Bramblefind found military papers stating that Lafayettes leg was amputated below the knee. Thanks a lot. I will copy the papers and tell my brother what you found. Thanks again.

His father was John Mason. Born Nov. 08, 1777 in Baltimore, Md. He died in Preston, W.Va. in 1852.

Im taking it all in. ;D Thanks. There was a John Mason but the birthdate doesnt match and nothing else matches.. http://www.gunstonhall.org/georgemason/mason_family/john_mason.html
Ill have to study this all later to try and figure out the mystery. Maybe my Dad was mistaken and we were only cousins. :dontknow: Im tired...

Can you send a screenshot of this? Thanks again.

Thanks Bramblefind and fyrffytr1 for the geneology search. To complicate matters, I remember my Dad telling me that at one time a Mason married a Mason. That would mean its possible for our relation to George Mason to be on the mothers side. My Dads mind was sharp but his memory of old family was not too good in the end.

Bramblefind, the paper you sent to me from Allegheny County fits. I remember my Dad telling me his fathers Grandad was the postmaster of Homestead Pa.

Thanks. I will have to write this all out and study it. It gives me a headache trying to make the connection.

Sorry for your loss. I have always thought the guys from the two World Wars the real heros. When they went to war it was until the job was finished, not just for a while. Tony

I found more papers. It appears our family has been in the US since at least the 1600's. Nothing that would be of any interest (other than to myself) to post. I need to check all of George Masons brothers to see if any of them had a son named John and that could make the family tree connection.
