Ha ha, that's pretty darn close. I always remember this character mine-sweeping Huntington beach for many years, same beach attire but with WWII tattoos on his forearms that had long since faded into blobs of ink. He would work the "towel line" which literally stretched for miles, his take was always womens rings and earrings along with spare change. The girls would lotion up after removing their jewelry,
become comfortable in their environment and with any disturbance of the towel by frisbee, football or sand was cause to shake out and realign the towel. Oops.
Then again, slowly becoming a dirty old man myself, perhaps it was more about the view or "eye treasure" than the days find.
Sooo, how much are these metal detector thingy majiggys anyhow?
I tried them before, I even won an eagle brand in a GPAA raffle.
too many "hot rocks" in my location at the time and made any detector useless.
Now I'm on the right coast, perhaps I need to rethink things.
