With all the great finds here lately I'm almost embarrassed to post this .......

No, this is not my usual post of colonial relics or coins. Since I can't get into the fields this time of year my only option is to hit some of the local salt water beaches for a little water hunting. Been using my new CZ-21 which I purchased late last summer, and I think I've finally figured it out (especially the ground balancing part). This machine goes really deep and I may even give it a try at a pounded colonial site in the fall. Anyway, I've been focusing more on hunting in deeper water to increase my chances for landing on some nice gold jewelry that others may have missed. But although I've dug over 15 rings this season including 3 nice tungsten carbide ones and a couple silvers, I have yet to see bonafide gold in my scoop. But at least I'm having a lot of fun plus this helps me to pass by the usually long, boring summer months. Hopefully some gold will be in my immediate future. If not, at least I have the colonial relic fields to look forward to in a couple of months.

No disrespect, but with all the incredible finds you make in your relic hunts, I am not feeling sorry for you, Bill. Lol. I am sure your level of water hunting will soon match your dirt mastery. Congrats!

Nice, ty for sharing. Now just need a weekend with no rain here in Va Beach so I can get out.

It's most important to just have some fun and enjoy just being out. Plus it's good practice anywhere you swing.

Bill the relics call to me from the water in the summer months ha ha

Seriously - that is not a bad haul at all man. I have used the CZ on land before - it works well at sites with little iron that you want to pluck deep targets from. I used it at a CW camp years back (in good ground) and was happy with the result - though I chalked it mostly up to using a machine and digging almost every target, including some of those that were probably iffy and too iffy on my land machine.

Being a newbie, it is good to see that experienced detectors have days when not a lot of good stuff is found underneath their coil. When I first started coming to this site and looking at the finds of some of the members, I was a little discouraged that I wasn't finding standing liberties, gold rings and silver dimes. Then I realized that even people who have been detecting for years have not found some of these things, but they keep swinging anyway because they love the hobby and the possibility that today may be the day they make that great find. Thanks. HH

I've felt the same way from time to time, that a hunt wasn't worth the time to post, but it is important for us to remember and especially newbies to realize that every day can't be rainbows, and lollypops (AKA spanish silver, gold rings, and belt plates). Sure a lot of stuff on the banner, but divide that by the 84,000 + members, you see the odds of making such a find.

That said that box full of goodies, and cash is far from a bad post.

Keep digging gold will be in your scoop one of these times. Heck I only got 1 gram of gold last year, a small watch case.

Looks like a good haul to me!

You'll be hauling in the gold soon!

Expect more banner finds...I'm off line and can't see them except when I can get free WiFi and people seem to be making them all over the place.

That's some good digging in my book !!! No shame in that game. All those relics will be there waiting for you in a few months.

What no bottle caps? You dumping them on my beach?

You must be chomping at the bit to get back to your great colonial sites. It prob makes some others realize that it's not as easy as you and some others make it look. It can't always be Spanish silver and beautiful old relics. Sometimes it's gotta be cell phones and toy cars lol

Nice scoops there and a good time on the beach it looks like to me !! Wish there were some beaches nearby here, will have to settle for the sandy grassed out yards, at least its been raining here some lately and its no longer dry !

Dan - I thought it would be interesting to take the CZ back to one of our productive but pounded sites and try to pull out a deep one from outside the iron patch. I would at least like to see what kind of depth it can get in a clean area of a non-mineralized field where I can crank up the sensitivity to max. This machine has been getting excellent depth in the wet sand and in the water even with the sensitivity set down to only 4.5 which is needed to keep the machine from falsing in the salt water environment. I need every advantage I can get when going up against the likes of you ..... haha!

Nothing wrong with showing this finds. Still looks like you got a nice little haul of Goodies!

Good Luck on that next target....She may be GOLD!

Most of the experienced diggers pay their dues to find the good stuff. You have good days and bad days. For example, here's my finds this week:

Thursday: 5 Lincoln memorial pennies.

Wednesday: 9 Lincoln memorial pennies, .44 musket ball (1800's) and a .69 musket ball (1700's?).

Tuesday: A few square nails and five .22 shell casings from the 1930's.

Monday: Late 1700's tombac button.

Sunday: Late 1700's Dandy button.

P.S. I hunted at least an hour every day and probably longer than that most days.

I've done the beach thing this summer too. Had a blast. It's a nice break from the snakes, gators, and mud. :D

There are many times when I go out scouting that I don't find anything worth posting. Usually just a farmer dropped coin or some junk. Takes a lot of scouting to find the best spots.

Cheers,

Buck

sure beats nothing but iron, pull tabs, zincoids and foil. or worse, not being able to go at all! it's all a mind set, it can't all be the great stuff. the average stuff really makes you appreciate the great finds when you finally get them. plus anytime you step out to try something new, it takes a while for most of us to get good at it. It all looked worthy of posting to me, there are lots of people out there who wonder if we find only the good stuff and they don't. keep swinging and we will be seeing your posts with the really good stuff soon enough.

Just read my last two posts, you'll feel better. :)

I'm not so sure about that. Water hunting is not as easy as it might appear. Pinpointing and recovering a target in chest deep water with waves and swells constantly smacking you is no picnic. But its getting easier with each hunt. I think I'll keep my day job (field hunting).

Hey u can't find colonial awesomeness all the time! nice digs!
