I'd like to keep this short but I'm not sure that will happen . Took off early last Friday to head out toward the coast. A buddy of mine granted me permission to hunt on his land. Through research, I found out that over 800 Confederate troops camped somewhere on his 200 acres. I called up a fellow T-netter and relic maniac CW Digger and told him to meet me at the property. We started swingin' away just to see if we can pick off some goodies to try and establish just where the campsite was - my second signal of the day was a first for me - a beautiful button rolled right out of the plug when I turned it over. I'm not sure if it's a uniform button but it sure is pretty! I was pretty much stoked after that but a few minutes later it got even better - I pulled what I believe is a "Tombac" button from around 7 inches. It may not be as pretty as the "greenie", but it's a beauty just the same. Picked up a bunch of small items - a pulltab from CW cartridge box, piece from some "buck and ball", a pack rivet, some small pieces of china and what appears to be a tiny piece of the very edge of a belt or box plate. CW had a great day as well (check out his post). I was so occupied with diggin' that I didn't realize I burned the he*@ out of my neck :BangHead: - it's all good though - I dug dug my first two CW era buttons (possibly earlier(?).

After we went our separate ways, I knew I was in for a long ride (3 1/2 hours) home. Spoke to Doug and he had told me I could sleep in his garage... :tongue3:. Fifteen minutes into my trip to Raleigh, I was asked to pull over by local law enforcement :o - apparently I was speeding just a tad. After the "do you know why I pulled you over?" question, I explained the days events and my intentions for the following day. Turns out that the officer was a Civil War buff himself! After showing him the a fistful of lead (thanks CW!), he checked out my credentials, came back to my vehicle and told me to have a good day and to drive safe. I was speechless to say the least! Maybe we'll be detecting together someday... ;D

Saturday afforded me the opportunity to meet Mirage and hunt with he and Doug. A great day for sure even with all the hopping around to different spots. Aside from finding a bunch of clad, my "best finds" of Saturday were this neat little squirrel (brass?) and this tiny little heal plate with the heart cut-out in the center. Although it's missing a good chunk from it, I like just the same. Also pulled this small metal tag with "120-T" and "PAT. Aug. 9, 1921" on it - any help id'ing the buttons and the tag is greatly appreciated.

So, a wild weekend it was (lots o'driving and runnin' around), but definitely worth it. Looking forward to getting out again next weekend. Thanks for stopping by and keep on swingin'... 8)

Very Nice Digs DD!!! Have you ever noticed that when you are digging relics, you don't get tired??? WTG and more HH.

Hey, I noticed that too...

(But then I realized it's because you can go an hour and a half of swinging before getting to dig your first hole) :P

Nice finds. I believe it is a civil war period button. Congrats.

Andy,
It was fun hunting with you and Doug. I loved when you got Doug and I with the "Persistance paided off....." hoax. ;D I bit. :D

What is cool is the thing we thought was a bottle cap. Might be but with a 1921 date. Very interesting. Wonder what it came from.

You know I became a redneck too - sunburn. It wasn't that bad and I only felt it for one day. I should be able to post my stuff tomorrow night. In Cleveland it rained Saturday and all day Sunday. When I got home the roof was leaking. I patched it yesterday and hopefully that will fix it. Anyway, I should be able to post tomorrow night.

take care - it was great to meet you.

Bob

It was great to finally meet you as well. Glad we had good hunting weather (even though I was already extra-crispy :tongue3:). Next time you come out we'll have to teach Doug how to fish... :D
