Okay, ya'll, this one is a challenge. I found this disk today, which appears to be made out of LEAD. It has a reddish thin bakelite looking flat disk on the inside with a SPRING behind it. There are NO threads, so it doesn't screw into anything. It is 3/4 inch in diameter. Also in the same area, I found a Waterbury CW Eagle Button, a Zouave Eagle button, a Lead Cloth Bail Seal, and some other goodies. All items were within 6 feet of each other. Any ideas on this strange disk??? Thanks in advance, Breezie

Mystery Solved (I think): I went back to the same yard/area this morning (the rain ran me in early) and found the head to an old LAWN SPRINKLER SYSTEM. Although the head looked like it had been sat on by an elephant, I could still tell the valve would fit it. Thanks ya'll for the help. Happy Halloween, Breezie
I guess it resembles a lot of things LOL.

yep Bigcypresshunter got it. It's a New York. The area around the shield on those is fairly weak and I've dug a good number that the shield was either gone or fell out of after I dug it. The other button is a civil war eagle button. The back looks like it has a RMDC Raised Mark in Depressed Channel. As a rule that type of backmark is 1850's and 60's There are exceptions though. H.V. Allien which is no earlier than 1870's and Raymond Whitlock which is about 1880's. I'm waiting for someone (anyone) to find out differently on the Whitlock backmark though.

vayank & bigcypresshunter, I don't have a button id book; do you recommend Tice or Allen? Both of you do excellent work on buttons!

Rando, it might have been a tuffie, but you nailed it. Tomorrow I'll post a pic of the sprinkler; it's still in the back of the SUV . . .why do I drag these things back home, just to throw them away much, much later?

Thanks,
Breezie

Thanks Glad I can help. I have Albet's and Tice's books but usually go to Albert's first if I have to look something up. Just because I've used that one longer I guess. Both are good books.
