Re: wicked lil thing

Confusing little point. To me looks like its been reworked. Notches look much bigger than they started out, also the tip as been reworked as a graver look about it. I have several gravers from Texas, this is what I see. I'm no expert, just my opinion. Maybe Matt could give you a better insight.
Nice find. Now I think about it, I have something very simular, from Texas, same material, with deep notches. I'll have to find the pic.

Molly.

Re: wicked lil thing

k molly, if u find that pic can you post it up

Re: wicked lil thing

It looks like a Deadman's point to me, but I'm just guessing. (Obviously the original owner is dead, but in this case the name refers to the type site, the Deadman's shelter, up in the panhandle of Tx.)

Re: wicked lil thing

Looks like a Calf Creek to me. jmho.

Re: wicked lil thing

THAT DOES LOOK PRETTY CLOSE DIRT, WHAT AREA WERE THEY FOUND? JOZER, I DONT THINK THE CALF CREEKS CAME THIS FAR WEST, BUT YEAH THE DEEP NOTCHES DO REMIND ME OF THAT

Re: wicked lil thing

North east Oklahoma. Neanderthal should know something about these. I'd like to have a name for it.

Re: wicked lil thing

There are several examples im my overstreet book of Calf Creeks from Texas.
However, looking at the base, it seems to be more dovetailed where Calf Creeks are more straight.
Hope you ID it. Beauty.

Might try a book called Stone Age Spear Points and Arrow Points
of the Southwestern United States

It does cover some of the stuff from the Jornada.

yeah LC, i have that book but have not had a moment to go through it, very detailed book on the different clusters of the diff areas of the us. ill check it tonight hopefully! :icon_thumleft:
