Why, Why, Why.....are they making another Dollar coin if its no bigger than

That's the problem with the higher denominations. If you strike a coin from worthless metal you'll have China and Korea (and Joe Schmoe in Kansas) counterfeiting them. If you use a precious metal it has to be close to the face value, but those fluxuate with international markets; so you may see Luxembourg or some such exporting all our coins to remelt. If you have the metal value over the face value EVERYONE will be melting and hording them.

The other failures??? If they want it to catch on then make it big like the old Dollar coins.
Its not the size!!! Its the government!!!!
If you put out a coin AND took away the bill?????? maybe just maybe it would work....But hummmm
would we make all that money off it??? yes the third printing of coin dollars and how many are out there?\
how many are put away? just one tenderfoot brain poof. 8)

In 1984 us Aussies chandged from $1 notes to coins then in 1988 we did the same for $2 both of them are coloured gold. Made from cupro-nickel. The $2 is about the same size as our 5c wich is the lowest denomination we have now. Its so close that people very very very ocasionally glue 2 5c with obverse (heads) outwards and paint them gold. Only the weight gives it away fairly quickly (not to mention the 2 heads!). The 2 dollars are heavy little fellers. Luckily for me the $2 is the most common coin I find so totals add up fairly quickly!

Just thought I'd let you know how it happened down under.
Basically the moral is that people love what their used to. They usually won't change unless they have to.

Have fun,
Salvager

P.S.
Our mint also releases different reverses for the $1 most years this year is APEC for circulation with Surf life saving in proof sets. Makes money even more fun!

For great fun. Go through a drive through and pay with kennedy half dollars, Susan B's and Sac's. Then watch the fun begin. ;D
One guy even called the manager. lol
I bought my ex-fiance a proof set and when I gave it to her she had a strange look on her face. She asked what that quarter looking one was with the lady on the front. A Susan B or course, she didn't even know they made them. Shows you the popularity of the coin.
I say they put different Playboy bunnies on the new Dollar coins. Boy, would they ever be collected. ;)

I once received a 1956 quarter in change at a convenience store. When I looked at my change I said "cool, a silver quarter". The kid behind the counter said something about all quarters being silver colored. I guess he didn't know that our coins actually contained silver at one time.
