If Smokey the Cat ever invites you to detect a site, just say "Yes. Thank you."

Me and the Equinox 800 were somehow invited back to "The Farm" again for a little Friday detecting fun and the "Relic Hunter's Amusement Park" did not disappoint once again.

My finds were relatively few, but they were quality and keep me coming back whenever I get lucky enough to be asked back. Heck, I've been to multi-day site hunts where just one of these keepers would have been more than I could have asked for.

Anyway, snagged a couple of Eagle buttons including my first "Eagle R" rifleman's button that even caused Smokey to sit up and take notice (lol) and a couple of nice minie balls including a Williams Type III cleaner.

So about that riddle - Why is Liberty seated on silver coinage? Answer: Because she's old. That's why.

In this case, 160 years old. Old silver comes out of this site shining like it was minted yesterday.

Also snagged a 1936 Wheatie who was too shy to have his picture taken and some other smaller brass, lead, and copper piece parts. Some big, flat iron also wanted to come out of the ground too because it was tired of getting hit by or falling off the plow, I guess.

All finds snagged with an Equinox 800 on stock Park 2 or Field 2 settings with just a smidge iron bias on the Park 2 setting (Iron Bias 3) to take the nail falsing edge off. Generally ran in All Metal. Had the Field 2 mode with 0 iron bias stored in the User Profile slot so I could quickly switch between the two modes for target interrogation or to switch things up. Got the impression Park 2 may hit slightly harder on high conductive targets than Field 2. Field 2 even with 0 iron bias seems to run "quieter" than Park 2 and gives me a a more solid overall non-ferrous audio signal on average. Very subjective observations and could be influenced by whatever mode I happened to be in when I nailed the keepers than real, objective performance data.

Still looking for my first seated . Nice coin .

Very nice old coin. I have found two. Both were black from being underwater. My friend Kevin found an 1853 last week while we were detecting. I want a shiny one!!

Yes,that is a great shining silver seated coin and R buttons are one on my list to find,

And all I got were two stinking Confederate buttons....yes, the silvers in this end of the county and the next county over come out almost looking like they were put in the ground yesterday. That applies to the American, French and Spanish colonial silvers we find. No black ones.

Everybody else who goes up to my site finds an Eagle I or R, but me, no, not me....*whimper*.

It was fun. I don't like going by myself anymore. My three pet hens got the leftover pizza!

That's a nice Seated silver, but I'd take that Rifleman's button any day. I suppose that's because I have many Seated coins, but no Rifleman's button. Plus, I just like the relics. Congrats on a great find.

Hugh, use only the Andre's pencils on the button and use them dry.

Very nice Hugh, on all of the finds. The buttons would blow me away. Yep, when the Cat Lady invites, you would be a fool not to go. looks like you are doing quite well with the 800. From what I seem to understand, I think that Park 2 does a very good job on depth. I am leaning towards the 800 even more so now. gotta love going somewhere by invite and finding something so awesome. Jerry

On this hunt there was a Minelab CTX 3030, one of the more advanced White's machines, I forget to get the model, the 800 and the XP Deus. The guy with the 3030 got the most relics, he pretty much stayed in one of the "hot spots" in the field, where chances were better overall gauging from past experiences. The XP Deus got the two Confederate use buttons, plus the sharps, and carbine sling, the 800 got the 2 buttons, 1 silver, 2 minies and the White's picked out silver, minies, watch winder, and we all got more modern bullets than what we needed. Items here are not deep as it is quite rocky. I don't think they can sink deep, and the disc was just run and threw a lot of items into the detector range.

Congratualtions on the nice finds! :occasion14:

Congrats on some seriously sweet old finds!
