I've always thought that it looked like neat hobby. My last deployment was spent with an RCP (Route Clearance Patrol) in Helmand Province
AFGHANISTAN. I was attached to those youngsters (The 162 EN MAC ORNG) tasked to support the 1ST and 2ND MARDIV's (The USMC).
I was there as a small arms repairman but, because we had so many folks hurt (And taken off of mission status) who couldn't go out
anymore, I ended up running missions (I should've been the world's safest fobbit...lol) as a gunner on the RG-31's that made up most
of our rolling stock.
Watching those "kids" (Both ORNG and USMC) get out in that "Moon dust" with their detectors when we spotted something and try and
figure out if it was just a piece of "trash" or...a thin copper wire leading to a command detonated 3 jug IED with metal detectors ( That
the local dirtbags might just explode in their faces) really got me thinking about this stuff again.
